                  Consistency is key.

There is nothing more frustrating than reading a story and the author messes up their own facts. Some examples:

Messing up your timeline - saying your character did something 3 weeks ago when it was actually this morning

Messing up facts about your character - saying they gave blue eyes at one point then saying they are brown

Messing up key story facts - the setting has changed or there is a huge plot hole

All of these things can really mess up your story and can make it frustrating as a reader because we don't know what's going through the writers head.

When you're editing your story and you change a plot point, always make sure to inform your current and future readers to be aware of these things, it's always pretty helpful and will stop you from getting complaints about your stories inconsistencies.

Always keep a note of your key ideas, it will greatly improve your ability to make sure your story flows.

If you think you're having trouble with consistency, make a timeline, similar to the previous chapter but maybe on a smaller scale like a chapter by chapter timeline so you know what happened when.

Once your story is consistent it will easily flow and allow the readers to spend more time engaging and less time trying to manoeuvre around your misplaced time gaps.

Happy writing,
