Guns and Gadgets

Alright so, this chapter is more of just a reminder than a learning point, but it is an important one nonetheless.

So, we all have our fair share of tech in our stories, may it be as simple as a bow and arrow or as complex as the Hubble telescope. The main thing is, you need to have the basics down.

Now, this is not hard to accomplish, a beginners guide to weapons and gadgets will give you enough information for you to use all the correct jargon in your story. But it is essential that you do it!! It's all well and good that your protagonist knows how to use a gun, but if you give a clumsy description of them loading their gun, your readers will find out and it will not make you look good at all. Watch a youtube video or a wikihow page and you should be golden.

Another point I wanted to make here was about new tech. If you have a futuristic or alternative universe or spy type story, you're gonna want to create some spicy pieces of equipment for everyone to use. PLAN THIS.

Draw a crappy diagram or find a fitting picture. Label all the bits you like. Make sure you give each bit a purpose. Now give it to you protagonist or antagonist to use. Understanding your own tech will give you more things to write about during scene detailing, and will help you story stay coherent and flow easily.

Of course, if you like a little comedy, having a protagonist that is disastrous at using their tech is great, but as the writer, you still have to know the true purpose of the gadget to know how your protagonist is gonna fail.

This chapter is super short, but it is definitely something I wanted to mention as it's something I had to do in multiple stories of mine and it really does need to be addressed. So yeah, pick your weapon and then do some research on them. Doesn't have to be a full report, just enough so you sound competent.

Thanks for reading my lovelies and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
