The boy dressed in blue was dimly awake, even though it was noon and he had drowned himself in coffee. It just didn't seem to be enough to sustain him from that night of watching his lizards. He didn't know why he felt so keen on watching them; he knew that they were safe. Maybe because he got so used to watching Tord fall asleep in the night. He had grown accustomed to it, and now that nine possible Tords were in his possession, he needed to make sure they wouldn't go run off to the police and get themselves killed.
Mumbled out a phrase that only his high-tech goggles could understand. "Siri, check my schedule for today." He had been keeping a schedule since he got the replies, so that he would remember to feed them and all.
He half heartedly listened to his day play out of that robotic voice. One thing did catch his attention though, that made all the sleepiness go away. "Pick up Tordun at 12:30."
"Tordun" was the name he had given to the corgi. It meant "Tord one," as the dog was the first Tord he had come by. The lizards didn't have as cool of names, they were all just "Tordizard," for "Tord lizard."
He jumped up. It was 12:20 and he had forgotten.
He raced for the door and called out to his friends about leaving. Not waiting for a response, he slammed the door and speed walked out of the apartment. He hopped into his car and thrust the keys into the ignition, almost hitting the gas when the car was in drive instead of reverse
He jittered in excitement. Not only had he never had a dog before, but he felt almost sure that it was Tord, the lizards were just a backup. The dog had literally chosen him over its own mother when it was so young, how could it have been just a coincidence?
Though, how could Tord have known it was him? The dog had his eyes closed at the time. Maybe it was his sense of smell. The familiarity was stronger than the mother dog's, so he went to the British boy instead. He brushed the other insecurities he held in his mind aside. It didn't matter, he was getting the dog anyways.
He was getting his Tord.
He drove through the town feeling antsy and full of anticipation. The townhouses and stores seemed a little bit less boring and dull. The sun seemed a touch brighter. Everything seemed a bit better than it was before. Before Tord had left. Before Tord had left.
His eyes caught a teenage boy and girl for a moment. They were holding hands as they walked. It made the world suddenly seem less bright. A sliver of a thought entered his mind that one of the two will be at the other's funeral. He disregarded it.
Tom drove into the roadside parking lot and launched himself at the pet store. A grin sat upon his face, the first true smile he'd had in a while. The woman from before, who was working at the time that he first found Tordun, was at the front of the store. At the back of his head, he thought scornfully about the fact that she was making money off of these animals being here.
"Hey!" she greeted him cheerily. "Here for your corgi?"
"Yes," he responded.
She walked him to the back of the store, going on about how his Tord was such a good dog. Apparently, he was affectionate and calm. He didn't know what to think, having his significant other being watched by this stranger. He didn't like her already, and her making an impact on him as a caretaker made him dislike her even more.
Jealousy. It was jealousy that he felt. He wanted to spend time with his lover and she was taking it away from him. He almost wanted to growl at her; hiss to be exact.
He was then hit with a wave of odd guilt, a dull dread. He was being so weird, acting as if a dog was his boyfriend. Of course, he knew that Tord was- might be the dog, and that wouldn't be as strange. But it was still such a peculiar thing to any normal person.
He shook himself and shrugged off the thought. No one had to know that he genuinely thought that the corgi was Tord. No one had to think that he was actually insane. No one but Edd and Matt, and they wouldn't think of him too harshly. They knew that reincarnation was real. They knew that he was looking for his lover.
He tried to reassure himself most of all, that Edd and Matt wouldn't think that he was crazy.
Barks and howls invaded his ears and made him jump, alerted from his thoughts.
