At the end of the school day, I was practically ambushed and kidnapped by Lara-Jean and Chris who had been waiting stealthily outside the door of my Spanish class.

As I exited the classroom they forcefully linked arms with me and purposefully marched me down the corridors to the car-park, both of them ignoring my confused protests.

"Would either of you care to tell me what the hell is going on?" I demanded as they pulled me down a steep set of stairs. Chris' eyes glinted mischievously yet she remained silent.

They finally released me only after I had been bundled violently into the back of Lara-Jean's car. They slammed the rear doors shut, then launched themselves into the front seats and rounded on me in unison. I had the uneasy feeling of being at some kind of interrogation.

I was about to object once more when Lara-Jean held up a finger to silence me.

"I'm sorry J, but the time has come for us to take matters into our own hands." She said seriously.

"And now we're heading to the coffee shop where you are going to explain every last detail of what's happening with you and Kavinsky." Chris added with a suggestive waggle of her eyebrows.

I groaned inwardly. I should have known.

"Don't give us any of that J. I think we all know that you've avoided the subject all day." Lara-Jean reprimanded me as she started the car up.

"Look, I'm meant to be driving home with him and Sam tonight after their practice, can't this be left to another day?" I rolled across the back seats to make a rapid exit but Chris switched on the door-locks immediately.

"Bitch." I said slowly.

Lara-Jean's nose twitched as she tried to stifle a laugh. Chris choked back a giggle as I glared at them both. Then the three of us erupted into peals of laughter for no evident reason.

"You're coming with us J. Like it or not." Chris said, imitating a deep and somewhat villainous tone.

"OK. Fine. Just let me text him." I relented, sighing.

"Ugh. She's even got his number." Chris mimed banging her head against the car window and I rolled my eyes.

The cafe had about two other customers other than me, Lara-Jean and Chris so we were able to bag the two comfy sofas in the corner. This had been our weekend meeting spot for as long as I can remember so we were experts in terms of knowing where to sit. The table by the door was a no go - cold breeze, wooden chairs and right by the window where you would most likely be spotted by someone from school. The tables in the middle of the cafe weren't so bad, but were often surrounded by couples sharing milkshakes and feeding each other, a vibe that left you feeling slightly nauseous and extremely lonely. That left the sofas, cosy, near to the counter and out of earshot of the rest of the cafe.

Lara-Jean and Chris sat themselves down on the opposite couch and leant in towards me. I could tell that they weren't going to let me leave this place until they'd heard every single minute detail of the deal between me and Peter.

After two minutes (I know, how pathetic) of dodging questions and awful lying, I finally cracked and told them everything about the fake fling, from Peter's messy breakup with Gen to his plan to win her back.

"Wow." Lara-Jean whistled through her teeth and looked at me with a sympathetic expression.

"Yeah. Not great." I sighed.

"I wish I could say that you're in a tight spot but I'm not much better off." Lara-Jean sipped her coffee subduedly. "I mean how exactly are you meant to explain to your sister that you've been crushing on her ex for like 3 years?"

Chris slumped back on the sofa and put her face in her hands,

"Looks like I'm the only one with any sense in this group."

Lara-Jean and I glared at her murderously.

"Hey, it's not my fault-" I began furiously.

"You're just too damn nice J. All you had to do was put your foot down and say no to Kavinsky. Unless of course you actually want to pretend-date him?" Chris arched a meaningful eyebrow.

My cheeks flushed,

"We're not pretend dating it's just... a pretend fling." I explained feebly. Chris smiled triumphantly.

"As for you Lara-Jean," Chris changed tactics, "you either tell Josh and Margot how you feel or suffer in silence forever."

"You make it sound so easy." Lara-Jean replied mockingly and shook her head disbelievingly at me.
