The week continued in the same vein, Peter drove me and Sam to school, we'd make sure some people from our grade saw us holding hands, then we'd meet back up at the end of the day to head home. All in all, it was pretty straightforward. Until Friday.

Walking down the hallway, mid-conversation with the girl I sat next to in psychology, a pair of strong arms wrapped around me from behind. I didn't have to turn around to know who it was.

"Come with me for a sec?" He whispered lightly in my ear, his cheek gently brushing against my temple.

"It doesn't seem like I'm getting much of a choice." I hissed back as Peter steered me off to the side of the corridor.

"Sorry!" I called out to the girl, Lucy, who smiled, waved and headed in the other direction.

"Ok, what was that for?" I demanded, extricating myself out of Peter's arms.

"Oh, so now I'm not even allowed to ask to spend time with you? Let alone actually spend time with my all-time favorite person in the entire school?" He scoffed but the corners of his mouth twitched upwards.

I blinked slowly at him and sighed deeply.

"Fine." He ran his hands through his dark hair hurriedly. "You're coming with me." He grinned, draping his arms across my shoulders and leading us in the direction of the canteen.

I halted abruptly.

"I'm supposed to be meeting Lara-Jean and Chris by the bleachers." I protested.

"Change of plan, Hughes." Peter replied breezily and continued to usher me towards the sound of raucous laughter and the buzz of conversation.

"Says who?" I countered indignantly.

"Says me." He smirked arrogantly but swiftly stopped after glancing down at me and spotting my thunderous expression. "Look J, you've got to admit it seems a little odd that we're meant to be romantically involved but never spend any time with each other during the school day."

"Oh, so we're back to making this thing look believable again?" I muttered.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Peter asked warily, his tone more guarded.

"I'm just confused Kavinsky." I replied, exasperated. "One day we won't speak at all and the next you're expecting me to act like we're the school's fucking power couple, it's just-"

Peter cut in, half-chuckling,

"I mean if we're talking about making this look believable I should probably drop in the fact that we haven't kissed or anything-"

He shut up as soon as he saw my eyebrows fixed sky-high on my face in mild amusement. I spun on my heel but after a few paces down the corridor I felt Peter's hand latch onto my arm.

"Hey hey hey," His voice came out surprisingly soft as he turned me to face him, "all I'm asking, Jamie, is for you to spend just one lunch with me and my friends." He pleaded earnestly.

I met his eyes.

"Whatever." I grumbled and he pulled me in for a quick side-hug.

"What would I do without you?" He laughed quietly into the top of my head.

"I'm starting to wonder the same thing." I retorted and shoved him off but couldn't help the broad smile from appearing on my face.
