For some insane reason I had attempted to crack on with some unfinished homework in the hours I had before Peter came to pick me up for Gabe's party. Well, the not so insane reason was that I hoped by focussing on some work I would be able to distract myself from the bundle of nerves in my stomach that kept on appearing whenever I thought of tonight.

To tell you the truth, I had spent about 10 minutes skimming through a webpage my teacher had recommended, then opened a new tab and started watching Netflix. Nice one. So much for cracking on with homework.

Mom poked her head around the door at just gone 7 to check in on me. I knew as soon as she sat herself down on my bed that some kind of 'be safe and use a condom' talk was nigh, not that it was really necessary given the whole 'boyfriend-who-isn't-actually-my-boyfriend' situation.

"Hiya J, how's the work going?" She asked pleasantly.

Guiltily I deleted the tab that I'd been watching Brooklyn 99 on and slammed my laptop shut,

"Yeah, ok thanks Mom."  I smiled, "I just thought I should get ahead on my work since I'm out tonight."

"How conscientious of you." Mom said teasingly with a twinkle in her eye, she knew all too well that the past few hours had been far from productive. There was no use lying to her - both Sam and I could attest from personal experience that she could see through us straight away.
