Kenzie's POV

All day I haven't been working on the castle for my father's return. He's been everywhere to bring peace. Now he's finally coming home.

I've always been a daddy's girl. Even when Maddie was here, my mom favored her and my father favored me. That's why, when my mother had me, my father never forced her to have a son since he taught me how to rule the country, even when Maddie was here.

"Your majesty, do those drapes work out for you?" A servant asked.

"Yes, thank you. That'll be all for now. Can someone check the kitchen to see if my father's favorite dessert is ready by dinner?" I asked then was in awe at the throne room.

"Your majesty, your gown is ready. It's in your chambers." I nodded then walked up to my chambers and changed.

The dress I wore was an old one my father got me before he left.

I had my hair straight down with a tiara. I wore a broach with the family crest.

I walked out and found out my father was coming home soon. I walked out to the courtyard with everyone else at the court, and met up with my ladies.

"You look wonderful Mackenzie. Is that the dress your father got you last winter?" Jayden asked.

"Yes, it is. Now, remember the court is looking forward to my father's arrival. Some aren't." I said, eyeing my mother who was trying to put on a brave face.

"Your mother? Well, arranged marriages most likely, they will hate each other. Look at your parents, mine as well." Lexi said.

"Arranged marriages are most marriages in our time. Especially since we're in the highest class of this time." Brynn said.

"Oh look, there he is." Nadia announced and everyone started to clap.

The carriage stopped in front of me and my father walked out. "Mackenzie." He smiled then gave me a hug.

"Father. How are you?" I asked.

"Amazing. Would you like to meet her? She's excited to meet you." My father said.

"Of course. Does no one else know?" I asked.

"No. Just you and your mother." Then, his mistress came out. Her belly bulging out her corset. "This is Jessica." He introduced us. She was a bit younger than him, maybe a few years. Her hair was blonde with a specific strand with cherry red color.

"Good to see you Princess Mackenzie. I'm Jessica Barnet. Lovely to meet your acquaintance." She curtsied. No one was super surprised. Everyone knew the king and queen didn't have a love marriage.

We all went back inside and I showed the castle to Jessica. She was in awe and told me her story.

Her and my father met in France when he passed through her town. Her father left her mom and her mom always looked after herself and not her children. Turns out Jessica had 5 siblings, most grown and married.

"I know what huh might think. I'm a gold digger. But that's not true. I do love your father. But never wanted this. I liked looking after my siblings so they didn't have to work or join the armies. I was the only girl, so I feared for my brothers safety. I never wanted to leave, but when I got with child, I was forced to go since people were coming at me with pitch forks and torches." She explained.

"Not many like mistresses. Or bastard children. It's true. Now, here is your chamber. Near my father's. Now, Susan will help you get ready for the gala. There are some dresses in there you could choose from." I said then left to talk to my father.

He could've said she was further along in her pregnancy. He's been gone for 9 months. She looks like she's 8 months pregnant.

"Father. Why didn't you mention she was further along? She shouldn't have traveled." I said.

"We've been on that boat for 2 weeks. The doctor was on the boat so she was fine." He said.

"Well, I need to go fetch my ladies." I said then went to their chamber and saw them in their chambers.

They were speaking with the servants. "Oh, Mackenzie. Is everything alright?" Nadia asked. Her orange hair glistened in the window light, she looks so much like her mother. I've never seen that in her. And Brynn, her blonde hair just ended below her shoulders. Jayden has brown and blonde hair, always straight and down. Lastly, Lexi. Her hair different from the others. Dark, darker than mine, and again, always straight. She's never had a problem with her hair in her life. All of them, there for me.

We all went back down and separated. Brynn went to the kitchen to check on the foods. Jayden went to check up on Jessica. Lexi went to dining room to check on the table setting, and Nadia went to the throne room to check on the decor.

I went to the garden since I have been so stressed lately. I sat down on the bench and looked up at the blue sky.

I got up to walk down to a tree to read. My book was about law, not some story.

"You are really obsessed with reading, aren't you?" I looked up and saw Lauren.

"Being the future queen, I need to be smarter than my spouse. I read and read and learn until I can't learn more." I said. "What do you know anyway?" I scoffed then got up.

"I may not be smart. But I'm smart enough to find a prince. Unlike you who isn't even married nor is engaged." She said then was about to walk back when I grabbed her shoulder.

"Don't you dare say your better than me. You don't know me at all. If you did, you wouldn't have said that. Because I know so many laws you've just broken." I said then saw someone walking towards us to I let go of her and put on a fake smile.

"Your majesty. Lady Brynn said your gown is ready." I nodded then walked back to my chambers.
