I gently lay the younger girl on my bed. I open my closet and make a makeshift bed for the pups. I set the sleeping, blood covered pups in the bed. A knock from my door echoes through my room. I quickly close my closet.
"Come in." I whisper. Masky and Hoodie lead Slender into my room. Slender glances over at the girl, then back at me.
"Do you know your name?" Slender asks. I tilt my head in confusion.
"Yah... It's, uh... How did I forget my own name?" I ask. He faces the girl again.
"She knows your name." Slender explains. I look over at the girl. I walk over to her bedside.
"How does she know my name?" I ask. I stroke her face, brushing hair from her face.
"Do you want to kill her?" Slender asks. I shake my head.
"Not at all." I answer.
I feel myself be shoved to the side. Masky holds himself over the girl, fist raised. My eyes widen. I tackle Masky, pinning him to the ground.
"What are you doing?" I ask, slightly agitated.
"Following orders." He answers simply. I climb off him. I walk back over to the girl.
A sudden realization floods my mind. I've only felt that strong connection to protect with three other people.
"What is her name?" I ask. Slender sighs. I hear a groan come from the girl. She moves her hand to her face, sitting up.
She moves her hand and looks up. I hear Slender teleport away. I look behind me. Masky is gone, too. I look back at the girl.
"Who are you?" She asks. "And why did you help me?"
"What is your name?" I ask, dodging the question.
"My name is Mackenzie." She greets. My eyes widen. She reaches up and touches the bandages covering most of my face. I flinch away.
"I.. wish I could tell you my name but, I don't remember. I was told you could help." I explain.
The girl reaches up again and touches my bandages.
"Move the bandages. Maybe if I can see your face, I can tell you who you are." She explains. My hand touches her hand. I sigh.
"Okay, but it may not be a beautiful sight." I give in. She smiles sweetly at me. She looks down at the ground.
"You remind me of someone I used to know." She explains. I nod, sitting on the bed.
"I.. can't take off the bandages. Could you please do it for me?" I ask. She nods, looking up.
Her hands start to unwrap the bandages.
~
She gasps as she removes the final bandage. Tears come to her eyes and she grabs my face.
"Luka! What did you do to yourself?" She shouts, looking at the handprint outline.
"Luka...? My name is.. Luka?" I ask. She nods, slowly.
She tackles me into a hug.
"Luka, I missed you so much." She explains.
"Kenzie...? I thought you were dead." I explain. She shakes her head sadly, tightening her grip on me.
"I thought you died, Luka. I am still technically dead. I'm a ghost." She explains.
I nod, resting my head in her arms. She smiles, petting my hair.
"Who brought you back to me?" I ask. I hear sigh come from her.
"I don't know." She answers. "Do you have the pups?"
"Yah, they are fine. I'm tired, you want to go to sleep?" I ask. She nods.
I smile, sitting up. I climb out of the bed. She moves up and lays down on the pillow. I climb in next to her. I clap my hands. The lights turn off.
I lay down, pulling the blanket over us. She lays with her back to me. I grab her abdomen and pull her close, cuddling her. I snuggle my head into her hair, inhaling her scent. Her heat and soft snores softly rocks me to sleep. Before dream land completely sucks me in, I feel soft lips connect to my forehead.
~
I rise out of bed, a thought running through my head. I look down. Kenzie snuggles against me, waking up.
"Kenzie. Do you know anything about... this weird glowing thing?" I ask.
Kenzie looks at me, poker faced.
"Show me." She orders. I pull Kenzie and Matthew from my pockets.
Like the first day I got them, they start to glow. Matthew glows blue and Kenzie glows red.
Kenzie looks at the knives then at my face. She grabs the sides of my head.
"Your eyes are glowing. One is glowing red, the other glowing blue. Just like the knives." Kenzie exhales.
I let go of the knives, the glow stopping.
"So... it's not just me." Kenzie mumbles. I look at her curiously.
"What do you mean?" I ask. Kenzie sighs.
"I think it happens when.. you kill a blood relative." Kenzie explains.
Kenzie reaches over me, grabbing my knives. Matthew starts glowing purple. Kenzie starts glowing neon pink.
"See?" She asks. I nod.
"Who did you kill?" I ask. She looks away.
"I killed Grandpa..." Kenzie explains. My eyes widen.
"Don't tell me you killed him because of me." I explain. She looks down.
"Yes... wait, who did you kill?" She asks. I sigh.
"Janet." I state. Kenzie looks me up and down.
"What did she do?" Kenzie asks. Tears come to my eyes.
"They treated me like a slave. Matthew killed himself, Mom and Dad where shot during a bank robbery, James was stabbed on the street. After our step parents killed them all, I couldn't take it anymore. I killed them." I explain.
Kenzie's eyes widen. She hugs me. Warm tears begin to soak my back. I hug her back, rubbing circles in her back.
"They are all dead, that is why I am here. These people took me in. They are killers and so am I. If you don't want to be a killer, that is fine. You have to admit that you enjoy watching the life drain from someone's fearful face." I explain. "I love you and these people. More than anything else. I will give my life for any of the people in this building..."
"I don't want you to die." Kenzie mumbles. I sigh.
"I don't want to die either." I reassure. She tightens her arms around me.
We sit in silence.
