Christian was making me very happy I couldn’t remember ever being this happy in my doped up, sad life. Christian had left me alone in his room after about ten minutes so he could get ready to visit Claudia. I needed to go get Faren and let the wolves out of the greenhouse and give them their time in the yard patrolling. I left the room after showering and changing into some clothes that had been left for me on the foot of the now made bed. I walked down the hall while twisting my still damp hair up into a pony tail. I was greeted by Faren who waited outside of the door to Christian’s den.  “Come on then, enough of being inside. I just don’t want any fighting.” I said kneeling and patting Faren on the neck and walking out with the large wolf in tow. It took about five minutes to walk down the hill and reach the green house. When I opened it the wolves immediately greeted me all of them smiling and wagging their tails.  “Come on!” I said beckoning them outside. They all immediately charged outside onto the large lawn that wrapped around the whole house. I sat down on the hill side and opened a book I had stashed in my back pocket.

I was about four chapters into the book when I heard the grass crunching behind me. Turning and shielding my eyes from the sun I saw Yvette. “Miss Eliza, there is someone here to see you.” She said curtsying. “Well dear I can’t I’m watching the wolves. Please tell them to-“ I was in the middle of saying when Yvette cut me off. “She said she is your mother.” I gave Yvette a shocked and puzzled look. “Ummm, well…show her here, I can’t afford to leave.” I said choking on my words. “Yes ma’am.” Yvette said curtsying once again and leaving to go back to the house. I sighed and marked the page in my book. I stood up and straightened my shirt and pulled the elastic out of my hair, and then I braided it and twisted it up so that I would look slightly more presentable. I only had to wait in my own anticipation for my mother for a few more minutes. I knew she was coming when all of the wolves immediately stopped what they were doing and stared past me. Alpha growled and walked forward, his head held high he and Faren walked forward coming to meet me on the hill and sitting next to me. “There there.” I whispered to both of them soothingly and turned to look at my mother. “We need to talk.” She said her face looking slightly sunken in and bags under her eyes seemed to just be forming. “We’re perfectly alone out here, with the exception of…them.” I said beckoning to the wolves that were still watching my mother as if she might turn into an alien. “Are they?” She asked looking at the wolves. “Generation one.” I said smiling. “They don’t seem as wild as the tales say.” She said looking at them with caution. “Oh they are plenty wild, but as a guardian it is my duty to watch over them.” I said smiling at them all with pride. “Eliza. There are some things that I need to tell you. There are some things about your life that you just don’t understand.” My mother slowly began. I was perplexed to say the least. “Mom, this isn’t funny.” I said hoping for some sign of humor on her features, but seeing none, my face fell. “Eliza, I’m sorry I wasn’t a better mother to you and if you never forgive me, I will understand. You’re not your father’s child.” She said looking away from me. I let out a nervous chuckle hoping that she would laugh with me, hoping that she was trying to be funny. Seeing her face stay as solemn as I had ever seen it, the smile on my face faded into a look of horror. “You must be joking.” I said furrowing my brows.

After a few seconds of silence she looked up at me tears in her eyes. “I truly wish I was.” She said wiping a stray tear from her cheek. “If dad isn’t my…dad, then who is?” I asked my mouth hanging open. I watched my mother sigh almost like she was having problems breathing. “I had an affair with someone before I ever met your father. I was twenty something and I was almost certain that I never would meet my mate.  All of my friends had found their mates when they were young teenagers, and in their preteens and I went through grade school, middle school, high school, and college all without meeting my mate. I was so lonely for affection when I turned twenty one that I went out with some girlfriends and got so drunk that I had no idea what happened the night of my 21st birthday. All I remember about that night was taking several tequila shots and have a couple martinis. We all met some cute guys, and the next thing I knew I was lying in bed with him, both of us naked. I couldn’t believe it, but I remembered us being so into each other that we hadn’t even used protection and then a couple days later I met your father and things fell into place. I passed you off as my husband’s child because I was afraid of what my family might do.” My mother said crying.
