As they walked through the night every noise, bump, or creak made them jump. Lyra was so scared, but she didn't want Laurin to see. At least one of them needed to be strong. Or pretend anyway.
"Lyra?" Laurin said as they walked. "Do you think Kold helped us escape because they were looking for him and not us?"
Oh man. Lyra thought. That makes sense. Why would they look for us? They were looking for him. Hence Kold leaving us to go do whatever he was doing.
"It makes sense. But, do you really think he would leave and go somewhere on his own?"
"Well, think about it, he's a fugitive. He goes to the party to find a friend. He gets caught by the wrong person. Troy was told. And then, boom he sees us obviously not High City residents. And helps us escape as well. He made us think they were looking for us not him." Laurin explained.
"Yea." Is all Lyra said. But, she knew Laurin was right. It didn't make any sense for Kold to save us without a reason.
They kept walking. Lyra's house just around the corner.
"Wait!" Laurin whispered as she put her hand out in front of Lyra.
In the silence of the night they heard yell yelling and crashing. Lyra went to the street corner and looked around a house. She saw the lights on in her house and outside was a squad of Rebel soldiers. They kept watching as the soldiers threw things in the yard. The yelling stopped and started. Off and on.
