The door’s creaks cause us all to stare in the same direction. Two people enter the room. Once I get a good look at them, I notice that they have no red eyes. They are both covered in body armor that makes them look like police officers. One question buzzes in my mind, Why would vampires need protection?

One of them walks over by Cooper and Natalie. Without a word, he picks Natalie up and begins to drag her away. She starts to kick and scream. Her loose punches manage to cause the man holding her discomfort.

“Let go of her!” Cooper yells while standing up and making his way towards the man that has his sister.

At this point, I’m standing up too. Cooper rushes over to the man that holds his sister hostage. The other man in the room simply points a gun looking item at Cooper and pulls a trigger. A dart hits Cooper’s neck causing him to fall to the ground.

“Cooper!” I yell while taking a half a step towards him.

All three of them leave the room undisturbed. I should’ve done something. Rushing over to Cooper, I notice that his eyes are closed. I pull the dart out of his neck. The dart has a clear casing. I can see the light green liquid from the outside. Poison? Venom? Drugs?

“What is it?” I wonder out loud while moving the liquid in the dart around causing it to swirl.

My hand slowly slips around Cooper’s body in search of a pulse. Once I find his pulse, I let out a sigh of relief. I sit down and gently lay Cooper’s head on my lap. His breath is steady and calm. Kissing his forehead, I notice how cold his skin is.

“Please wake up.” I beg.

Maybe this would be a good time to give him his jacket back. With that said, I gently drape the jacket over Cooper’s chest. His messy sun-kissed hair makes me want to run my fingers through it. My mind wonders what will happen to Natalie, but it also focuses on what will happen when Cooper wakes up without his sister.

I spend the next hour staring down at him, hoping that his eyes would open soon. Then, I feel his body twitch. Cooper’s blue eyes open as he groans in pain. I gently lay my hand on his cheek.

“Are you okay?” I instantly question.

He slowly attempts to sit up.

“Careful.” I caution while hovering my hands around his waist, in case he fell back.

Once he manages to sit up. Cooper looks around the room. His eyes wander in search of his sister. He quickly stands up and starts to bang his hand on the door.

“Give her back you bastards!” He shouts.

After ten minutes of shouting, he sits down and leans against the metal wall. His hand covers his face as he begins to sob. His knuckles are bruised and slightly bleeding from the attack on the door.

“I-I let them take her.” He mutters.

I crawl over to him and pull Copper into a hug. “She’ll be okay.”

“No she won’t! They’ll kill her! It’s my entire fault!” Cooper yells while warm tears stream down his cheek.

I wipe his tears with my bare fingers. “Don’t say that. It wasn’t your fault.”

The light watery droplets make my hands moist. It also reminds me of the sudden thirst for water that haunts me. All Cooper does is nods his head. I stare at him until he makes eye contact with me. Through his piercing stare I could still see his tears. He quickly blinks them away and clears his throat.

“Sorry…” He whispers.

“Why are you sorry? You care about your sister. That’s all.” I remind.
