His intentions were pure, I could understand that part. In order to protect his sister, he made sure that he could keep an eye on her while she slept. But it causes me to wonder what would’ve happened if Cooper didn’t even have a sister. Would he have picked me instead? Would we even know each other?
What’s done is done.
The sound of a door slamming snaps me out of my thoughts. Looking around, I take a gander of my new surroundings. How come I never felt them pushing me into the room? I lean up against the door with my forehead pressed hard against the long wood piece. My hand carefully tries to twist the nob of the door.
Of course, my attempt failed as I take notice of the locked door.
“I’ll take the floor and you take the bed.” A male voice calls out, causing me to flinch and turn in his direction.
Through the darkness of the room, I can see his figure grab a pillow and place it on the ground next to the double bed.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll take the ground you could take the bed.” I debate while shaking my hands.
“Whatever, I guess we’ll figure it out later.” He pauses to walk to the edge of the room. “I’m going to take a shower, so don’t walk into the bathroom.”
“There’s a bathroom?” I mutter to myself in utter shock.
Noticing that he’s gone, I slowly sit down at the edge of the bed. I run my fingers through the soft velvet blankets that lay neatly down. Then, I hear the water running and see the stream slowly creep into the bedroom.
Giving a long sigh, I lay down on the ground and cover myself with one spare blanket. Even though the floor was covered with carpet, I could still feel the cold air invade my lungs.
I desperately close my eyes to see if I might be able to sleep.
I wake up to the sound of snoring. Sitting up, I look over at the bed. The noise got louder. Whoever is sleeping in the bed is the source of the noise. But even over the snoring, I heard a click come in the door’s direction.
I stand up and walk over towards the door. My hand automatically begins to hover over the door nob. Either there’s someone on the other side, I’m dreaming, or The door is unlocked.
Twisting the door nob, the door creaks open. A smile paints my face as I poke my head outwards. I slip my body out of the bedroom and quietly shut the door behind me. From a distance I spot a fire crackling violently in the fireplace.
Looking closer, I see a male figure. Blonde hair and blue eyes. He runs a silver chain through his fingers as his gaze is gripped on the fire’s dance.
Cooper?
I walk through the room to make my way towards him. His gaze is directed towards me once I come close. He releases a smile and calmly whispers. “Morning.”
His voice was shaky and seemed very weak for even a whisper. Thanks to the light from the fire, I could see the droplets of water that lay on his cheeks. More pour out of his eyes and drip down his nose.
“What’s wrong?” I question while taking a seat.
“Nothing.” He mutters back.
“Cooper, I’m not blind.” I point out, hoping it would cause him to explain his problem to me.
“I should be happy, right? I should be happy that they took her again.” He pauses throw the silver chain by the fire. He only missed the fire by an inch.
Instead of tears or sorrow, his eyes fill with anger as his face turns red. “She hates me now.”
“Natalie?” I question.
