When Xu Weizhou pressed a gun to his temple to end his life, nobody knew about it. Not until his closest friend found him slumped dead in his apartment. The ambulance came, but it was too late. Zhou was dead the moment he squeezed the trigger.
Except, he never really squeezed the trigger. But WeiZhou was tired of life, at least his life. He was bored with the same old things. Photo shoots, small acting roles. Traveling to every other country, ones he was bored with. He was tired of getting lost in those cities.
But, most of all, he was tired of his 'boyfriend', Huang Jingyu. Jingyu was gay, but he refused to admit it. They had been dating for two years, living in the same apartment, shared the same clothes. But Jingyu didn't want to admit it. He was not gay. He just had special feelings for Zhou. And so, he started dating a girl, which pushed Zhou over the edge.
So, he faked his own death. Yes, it was dishonest, but he was sick of being in the spotlight, sick of Jingyu being such an ass towards him.
But, before Jingyu betrayed him, WeiZhou met the two most helpful guys he would ever meet in his life. Jackson Wang and Kunpimook Bhuwakul, who went by BamBam. Jackson had known Jingyu since they met on "Don't Touch My Baby" and BamBam was his closet friend, coming from the band GOT7. Well, friend was a modest statement. BamBam and Jackson had really been dating for a couple years now, but secretly, of course, since they couldn't risk the backlash two gay idols could get.
Anyway, Jackson and BamBam would stop in to visit Zhou and Jingyu whenever they were by Beijing. They would hang out, have drinks, talk about what was going on, and the night would end with Jackson and Bam sleeping over on the other couples couch, both highly intoxicated.
When Jingyu and WeiZhou fought, they always went to the other couple, who had hardly any problems in their relationship. They were always happy to help, especially when WeiZhou started to have suicidal thoughts.
"I don't know. Sometimes I'm sick of him. Sick of the world, sick of the same old life." He had said to BamBam once, which is when they started planning to fake his death.
WeiZhou was hesitant about doing it. There were always good days and bad days, but, Jingyu caused most of the stress in his life. When he stopped sleeping with Zhou, things got worse.
"Why don't you touch me anymore?" WeiZhou said one night when they were cleaning up dinner. "You used to hug me, and kiss me, and sleep with me. Why have you been ignoring me?"
Jingyu didn't look him in the eyes. "I've found someone else." A glass fell to the floor and shattered, leaving a metaphorical portrait of WeiZhou's heart.
He didn't sleep that night. He was too busy booking a flight to Korea, and packing up all his belongings that he really wanted. A couple awards, a lot of clothing, a few posters, some toiletries. He was almost out the door, but he turned back.
Walking slowly to the living room, he gazed at Jingyu's sleeping form. He looked stressed, but, if you looked past the bags under his eyes, past the tension in his eyebrows, you could still see the Yu that was meant for Zhou.
So, WeiZhou took a picture frame off a decorative table. He stared at it under the dim lamplight for a moment. Jingyu squeezing his waist. Him smiling hugely. It was a picture from the same beach they filmed 'Walk Slowly' on, his favourite picture.
He stuffed it into his bag.
And then, WeiZhou left.
He landed in Seoul at 5am, taking a taxi to a very private place. He walked up stone steps and rung the doorbell of the huge house.
BamBam answered, rubbing his eyes sleepily. "Zhou? What are you doing here?" He asked, although he already knew exactly why he was here.
"I'm ready to do it." He nodded, trying to convince himself he was really ready.
"You're sure this time?"
"Yes."
"Okay." BamBam said, then let WeiZhou inside.
They set out, (with Jackson), at 9, to WeiZhou's new home, Mangsang, Korea. It was a small town that mostly ran on tourism, because of its beautiful beach. There was a hospital, a couple small stores, a hotel and a few others things. The city wasn't busy, especially not without tourists, and so there was really no chance that anyone would recognize WeiZhou.
They bought him a house, humble and small, almost like the one Bai Lou Yin used to live in. There were big houses, but they were mostly vacation homes for rich foreigners, so the people around there didn't like them much.
Jackson and BamBam stayed for three days, to help him move in and to make sure he wasn't outside while the plan was put into action. WeiZhou turned his phone off completely, overwhelmed by the messages of love and "I'll miss you" from his fans, but also bothered by the 35 missed calls from Jingyu.
He reset his phone completely, wiping out all the contacts, social media, search results. He was panicking slightly, but it was okay, because he was about to start a new part of his life.
He nodded to himself. Happier.
