"Do you think she will wake up soon father?" a voice reaches through the darkness.
"I don't know son. It's been over eight years now. Maybe the spell has taken effect again. She may never wake up."
I slowly open my eyes and blink them to focus my vision. Tristan and a young man sit next to the bed in which I'm lying talking in whispers now. I start to reach out to them when a little boy slips into the room and sneaks over to the other side of my bed. I feel the bed shift as he crawls on top of it and I groan as he accidentally steps on my wrist. The young man looks over at the sound and his eyes go wide with shock.
"Diva? Are you awake?" he runs to the edge of the bed with tears forming in his eyes. Then he sees the little boy and smacks him across the face. "Illidan! What did I tell you about touching her?!"
I smile kindly and reach up to Illidan's head. I pat it gently and look back at the young man. "He didn't do anything wrong. I..." I gasp as I look at the young boys face closer. I look at Tristan in shock then at the young man. Sitting up I take Illidan into my arms and cradle him gently. "You were just waiting for me to wake up weren't you Illidan?" I mutter to him. I look back to the young man finally realizing who he is. "Did I cause you to worry Krelldan?"
He stares at me then starts to cry and throws himself into my arms. "You are a very bad demon! You kept me waiting for eight years. I thought you might never wake up." He sobs into my shoulder and I reach my hand up, stroking his hair as he cries.
"I'm sorry Krell. I didn't mean to scare you. As for your father..." I turn to face Tristan, still holding the boys. "You'd better have a really good explanation as to why Illidan carries my magic signature. Didn't you know that once a demon hunter is given a demon's DNA they are bound to that demon until it dies?"
He lowers his head and nods. "We did know that. Normally after a demon has had their DNA implanted into a demon hunter child they are killed so that the bond is broken immediately, but Emily and I didn't have the strength to kill you after Illidan had been given your DNA."
"I'm grateful to you for that, however your son won't be able to break the bond unless he kills me himself which because of the bond he won't be able to do without serious physiological trauma. That's why the demon's bond is sometimes called a curse." I look down at Illidan who, while we were talking, fell asleep. "What will you do now? I can leave, which will weaken the bond, or I can stay and let the bond stay strong. There is a good and a bad side to both."
"Well, what's the bad side to you staying? We also kind of made you his godmother." Tristan raises his eyebrow then looks at his son fondly.
"My powers are just starting to come back. His emotions will affect my ability to control them. Such as if he were to get extremely angry or upset, I could lose control and hurt you and your family."
"Our entire family is trained to take care of out of control demons. I think we can manage your majesty." He smiles and Krelldan sits up looking at me with a strange emotion in his eyes.
"Does that mean you are going to stay?" Krelldan's face lights up with pure joy as I nod and smile.
"Yes Krell. I'll be staying." I playfully ruffle his hair and wake Illidan, who blinks twice and smiles widely then starts to play with my hair, tying it in knots and using his fingers to pretend to cut it. I laugh and push him lightly off my lap. Reaching out to Krell, who takes my hand, I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and stand for the first time in eight years. It lasts for about twelve seconds then my legs give out and Krell has to catch me. He pulls me into his arms and carries me to the parlor, where I was brought when I'd first come to the house its grandeur decoration still the same. Setting me in a huge armchair, he sits on the arm and runs his fingers through my hair. I look up at him and smile.
"What are you doing?" I tease him. His hand comes to a stop over the middle of my back.
"You are a fallen angel right? Where are your wings?" he touches the place where most angel's wings attach.
I shudder and smile. "You want to see them?" he nods and I start to stand. He jumps up and helps me, letting me use him as support so I don't fall again. "Let's go outside. I don't think that your mother would like it if I got feathers all over her parlor." He laughs and helps me outside into the garden. I look around then close my eyes. Focusing all my energy on the spot on my back I imagine my wings, beautiful and grand, sitting upon my back once again. Light begins to emanate from my back and Krelldan backs away.
"Diva? What's happening?" He shields his eyes as the light grow brighter. I scream as my wings burst from my back. The light begins to fade and my wings, about a 50-foot wingspan, stretches out behind me. I fall to my hands and knees panting. Krell runs to my side and reaches out to touch the huge black and gold wings that now sit atop my back. "Wow" he whispers as he strokes the feathers, "They're beautiful."
"Well, thanks. Woah! I haven't felt this tired after using magic since I was three." I start to sit up and Krell lends me his arm. He leads me to a bench to sit down. "So, you like them? And before you ask, yes, I can actually fly and it's amazing"
"What?! Did you just read my mind?" he leans away from me in shock and blushes deeply.
"No, that's just people's normal reaction to my wings. I can read your mind though if you want." I push my magic into his mind and link his thoughts to my own. I listen to his first thought and immediately disconnect the link. "Krelldan! Are you crazy?! That's against every law Demon Hunters live by!"
He backs away, blushing deeper. "I know, but somehow I can't help it." He reaches for my hand and I let him take it, knowing in my heart I feel the same.
"Krelldan, I know how you feel. I honestly..." I pause, not sure if telling him is the best idea. "I feel the same." I blush deeply and turn away. My wings wrap around my body and pull him closer to me. "Krelldan, will you fly with me?"
His eyes widen and he lets go of my hand. "How? What? I mean..." he stops and closes his eyes then takes a deep breath and looks straight at me. "Yes, I would be honored to fly with you your majesty." He attempts a tiny bow and almost falls over. I giggle and catch him in my wing.
"Just Diva is fine Krell, or Dear if you prefer." I stand up and let my wings carry me which makes it seem as though I'm hovering about three inches above the ground. My wings strain to fly, to be free again and ride the winds as they did long ago. He stares at me then lowers his head. I let myself touch the ground and put my hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong Krell?"
"I..." he looks up at me tears forming in his eyes "I can't fly. I don't have wings. I was so excited that I didn't even think about it."
"Do you trust me?" I take his hand and lift his face to look at me.
"Yes, I do trust you Diva" his voice steady and his eyes filled with determination he stands up straight and grips my hand.
"Then I will give you wings. Are you willing to accept part of a demon into your body?" He nods and I smile kindly. "Then it's done." I trace my fingers across my lips, turning them a glowing black color. Pulling him to me I press my lips to his gently, letting the magic on them flow into his body. He draws back, then leans into the kiss and wrapping his arms around my back, holding my body close to him. The magic surges through his body and builds wings from nothing onto his back. They are small compared to mine, but otherwise exactly the same. I break the kiss and the transformation is complete.
