I open my eyes. My hands are wet and sticky with blood. The room smells of death and fear. Not far away, Emily and Tristan lay in the floor covered in blood and deathly pale. My eyes widen in horror and I look around frantically for Illidan and Krelldan.
Suddenly something cold is pressed against my neck. "You killed them." Krelldan's voice is subdued and in shock. "You killed them!"
Ignoring the knife at my throat I turn to face him. The emotions in his eyes are torn between his love for me and his love for his parents which fuels his ample hatred for me because I killed them. His body shakes with anger but also with fear. I smile sorrowfully and touch the blade he holds to my throat. "By the name of the King of Angels I turn this bade holy." My words are steady and emotionless as I chant the holy spell using what little remains of my angelic magic. The blade shines brightly then dims to a dull glow.
Krelldan pulls it away from my throat slightly in amazement and shock. "You used holy magic. If I touch you with this knife, then..." he stops and his eyes widen as he realizes what I've done. He looks up at me.
I grab his wrist and pull the knife back against my neck. "...not even the strongest demon magic will be able to heal my wound. That knife is the only one in the world that is pure enough to kill me. Anything else will hurt yes but that knife can actually kill me and I will never come back..." looks into his eyes so he can read my emotions. "...I can never come back. You have three choices Krell. You can kill me now, you can keep the knife and wait to kill me, or you can hand the knife to Illidan for him to have in the event that he ever wants to escape this curse your parents knowingly placed in him the second my DNA entered his body." His eyes widen even further in fear and his eyes dart around the room trying to find Illidan. The knife in his hand shakes, and I snap him back into focus by pulling it even closer to my skin. "Make your choice. Any way you choose I will end up dead someday." I close my eyes and wait for his decision. I feel the cold metal touch my flesh and it burns excruciatingly bad but I don't move nor do I make a sound.
"You..." his voice suddenly full of love "... were willing to die to satisfy my need for revenge. Diva, I'm not going to kill you, but I'm not going to keep this knife and I'm not going to give it to Illidan." I open my eyes to find him staring fondly at me.
"Krell, I..." he cuts me off pressing his lips to mine firmly. He drops the knife and it clatters to the floor beside us as his hand slips behind my back. For a moment I resist, but then I lean into the kiss, knowing deep in my heart it's the last one I'll get from him. As he pulls away, I secretly draw a holy rune onto his back. My eyes fill with tears as he lets go of my hand and turns to walk from the room.
He turns back to face me. "I'm giving it to you. It's your choice what happens to it now." With a final smile, he disappears through the door.
I stare frozen at the doorway for what seems like an eternity. A small whisper behind me snaps my mind back to reality. "Mommy? Daddy?" I turn around to find Illidan kneeling by his parent's lifeless bodies with a frightened puzzled look on his face. "Wake up. Please mommy wake up." He touches her arm then stumbles away in fear when his hand comes away sticky with blood. I quickly move behind him and catch him in my arms. He looks up at me, tears streaming down his cheeks. "What's wrong with them? Why aren't they moving?" He throws himself into my arms and begins to sob. I gently hug him and look at Emily's face.
As Illidan cries I realize that their souls are still in the room. I remember from the history I read in their minds the first time I met them that once a demon hunter is killed it takes 24 hours for their souls to leave their bodies. Realizing this, I search desperately for my magic only to find I only have a little left. It's not nearly enough to bring them back. I sigh and push Illidan away from my chest. "Illidan dear, listen to me." I look straight into his eyes. "You're going to go stay with some of your parent's friends for a while okay?" He nods his head and stares back into my eyes. I channel the last of the magic I have left into my eyes and use it to erase his memory. His eyes roll back in his head and he collapses as the magic knocks him out. Catching him in my arms I whisper, "I'm sorry."
