"We've been planning for hours, Artemis. Shouldn't we pause to get some dinner?"
"No! I want to finish this plan, Lizzie! We're so close, and I really don't want to wait much longer. The longer we wait, the longer the government stays in power, and the longer the government could be tracking us down. Just give me five more minutes, okay?!"
"Okay, I'll be waiting for you at the dinner table."
"It's the same table as the lunch and breakfast table," I muttered under my breath.
She headed out of the room, leaving me in silence, to think, plan, and finish what we'd started. I glanced over the route one final time to make sure we hadn't left out any families, and to make sure we had everyone accounted for job wise.
I saw not a single flaw. I stood up, and grinned. It would be a lot of work and resources, but I knew that it would all be worth it. Quickly, I saved and shared the file, making sure I was the only one who could actually share and edit it. I sighed.
"I just can't trust anyone else," I whispered to myself.
I finished saving it, and turned off the holo-g-pad, leaving the room dark and empty; just like my trust in others, and my belief in the government.
I walked out of the room, closing the door shut and locking it. I put the key in my pocket, and went to dinner.
I walked in to a very loud, large crowd of people. I grinned. As much as I didn't like that much social interaction, it reminded me of the Hunters. It was like a new form of family. The Revenues.
I saw Thalissa and Zabrina had a spot in between them, so I went over to them and sat down.
Thalissa saw me and smiled. "Hey, did you finish?"
"Yep, and I even double checked it. From what I can tell, there's not even a single flaw." I smirked.
Zabrina ruffled my hair. "Hey, don't get cocky! We all did a lot too. I was able to get a timed bomb, plus a protective field that's large enough to go around the White State."
I turned to Zabrina. "I'm confused. Why on earth did you buy a protection for the people we want to kill?"
Zabrina rolled her eyes. "That's what everyone else keeps asking! Okay, for the ninth time today, let me explain. The force field, as I'm calling it, will go around the White State. It's normally meant to keep enemies out, but in this case, it will do two things. One, it will keep all the congressmen we don't send out, in the state, so they'll explode. Second, it will keep the explosion not only quiet, but also keep the explosion only in the White State, keeping innocent civilians out of the explosion."
I nodded. "That makes way more sense. Great job, Zabrina."
She blushed. "Thanks, Artemis."
"Would you like dinner?"
I turned around to see Val. "Oh, yes please!"
She gave me a plate, a cup with water, steak, some spinach, and a roll.
I smiled. "Thanks, Val!"
"You are welcome," she replied. She started to go away, then stopped and turned around.
"Sorry, that was really stupid."
I looked up confused. "Huh?"
She set down a fork.
I chuckled. "Thanks, I kinda need that." I turned back to my food, and started eating.
There was small talk, talk about the mission, the tech we had, what we still needed, and even some normal talk about stuff like crushes. It kind of surprised me. This was an almost normal conversation, with almost normal people.
