✷ ✷ ✷ After school the next day, just hours before Roz's halloween party, Velma and Daphne were on a marathon shopping trip of a lifetime. They made a trip down to a local boutique to find presents for Sabrina, made a call to her mother to pull out one of Daphne's pageant crowns and a pair of evening gloves, they ended up at the thrift store. Currently, Daphne was elbow deep in the skirt rack, looking for a jean one to finish up Velma's "Tina" costume from Bob's Burgers.
"Daphne, I found a blue t-shirt that fits!" She yelled in victory, racing over in her worn, black converse. "Are you sure you still have those over-the-knee socks from last Halloween?"
"Yeah, V. I had Jenkins wash them to make sure they were clean enough for you."
Velma walked over, watching as Daphne seemed to burn a hole into the jean skirt in her hands "Daph...are you sure you'll be okay going to this?"
Her head snapped up, nodding. "Yeah, i'll be good...I found the skirt! My mom has a great red clip she used for a vogue shoot a couple of years back she's pulling out for the look."
"What are you being anyway, I'm confused?" The dark haired girl questioned.
"A princess, it's easy and I have a few dresses I've only worn for weddings once." Daphne lit up, walking towards the register with her friend. "I picked out this lilac one with a bunch of sparkles and embellishment on the top half, plus these killer Kate Spade kitten heels covered in glitter."
"I'll never understand how you remember all these names and stuff, Daphne." Velma shook her head, paying for her items and rushing out of the store, hopping into the Range Rover waiting outside.
"You don't have to, that's why you have me, Velmie!" She exclaimed, then settling to let her mind wander on the short drive to the Blake Estate.
For some reason, Daphne couldn't help but feel sick to her stomach thinking about going to the Halloween party. Not only would she be forced to hang out with the boy she had both decided was off limits, the daughter of the pastor at the church her family attended and a nice friend of theirs, but...something seemed strange with his golden girlfriend. Last night, Sabrina had a cloud of discomfort the entire time, when she thought people weren't looking, a deep frown would spread across her pale face. Not only did she call out of school on her birthday, She would make small comments that lead her off...and Daphne was sure if anyone else had saw it, it would've gone over their heads. But, since she was not just anyone, she started to wonder just why the Spellman girl was upset. Maybe it was her home life? School? Harvey? The last thought invaded her mind quickly and made her feel like some sort of Jezebel. And, quite frankly, she had a costume emergency to deal with.

About 2 hours later, the pair of girls had been thoroughly dressed up and primped, waiting for their friends to show up to the party and ignoring the stares of their fellow classmates.
"We discover that the football team leaks peoples nudes once and everyone thinks we're the bad ones!" Velma said, fixing the bright red clip holding back her hair. Daphne simply rolled her eyes, stirring the sherbet-sprite punch Roz had made that she recognized from the snack table at the youth gatherings at the church. Quickly, she scanned the room in hopes that she'd find a chocolate-haired boy somewhere in the crowd, instead finding Fred and Shaggy, Scooby following behind in a happy trot. Daphne let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
Fred seemed to notice, coming quickly to her side and giving her a stern look, looking down at her from his baseball cap. "We can just go home and hand out candy if you want, we don't even have to watch a scary movie."
"I'm fine, Freddie...just a lot of people in here." She quickly said, not wanting to admit to her real feelings. She grabbed onto his arm tightly as if to anchor herself. "We can go after I give Sabrina her birthday present."
"Daph, if you're gonna barf, don't do it in front of Scoob." Shaggy says while shoving a slice of pizza into his mouth, Scooby watching it closely.
"Norville, I swear to sweet baby Jesus that I will slap you in front of everyone, one of these days." The redhead mutters quickly, fixing one of her mothers elbow length gloves. The tan boy rolls his eyes and pulls his short girlfriend in, maxing her adjust her glasses with a sweet giggle. Secretly, Daphne wished she had something like that, something as pure and innocent. Maybe, it was her stubbornness or need for affirmation that drove people away. She guessed it was partially that, along with the fact that her and her friends - her best friends - wouldn't let people get away with doing bad things.
It was then that Daphne felt contentment, she had enough platonic love to fill her heart and keep her centered...not many people had a bond this pure and loving. She was always fully herself around this group of oddballs that seemed to mesh together well. Whether it was Daphne watching FIFA to learn what Fred was talking about when he complained about practice when they first started hanging out, or teaching Velma about cosmetic ingredient safety, as smart a she may be...even finding pet and human safe treats so that Shaggy wouldn't get sick from accidentally eating Scooby's dog treats. They were her first love...her Mysterious group of Weirdos.
The feelings of happiness were replaced with anxiety as Harvey and Sabrina walked through the door, noticing right off the bat that the petite blonde was wearing a vintage wedding dress. A bride? For Halloween? That was a choice...a very strong one at that. Harvey was a contrast to her feminine and delicate appearance, wearing mining clothes that belonged to his father or brother, no doubt. He looked strong and elated next to her, leaving this sinking feeling in the pit of the young Blake girl's stomach.
They walked over to the group with Roz and Susie, Daphne remembering to plaster one of her interview round worthy smiles onto her face, holding out a small, red gift bag. "A little birdie told me to bring a pretty girl her birthday present tonight!" She rang out, pulling her into a hug. Sabrina smiled, opening the gift after being released from the embrace. Out came a pair of onyx stud earrings, the blonde smiling and immediately putting them in.
"They're beautiful, Daphne!" She gave her a weary look. "I'm going to be so mad if you spent a lot of money on these."
"Oh please, what's the point of having resources if I can't share them with my friends." She pulled her in again, kissing her on the cheek. "Happy Birthday, 'Brina!"
Harvey smiled at her, almost knocking her on her ass. "That was really cool of you, Daph."
Daphne's heart practically exploded, shrugging. "I like to do nice things for people I like, what can I say?"
"Yeah, but you've barely known us for a few day, and I mean really gotten to know us." He replied, trying to figure her out. "Why the nice treatment?"
Daphne softened, green eyes looking over at the Kinkle boy. "At this point in my life, after witch-hunting , it's easy to tell which people are genuine and who aren't, you lot are some of the good ones."
"You're good too, you know. You guys look out for the little guy," He replied, leaning against a wall. "Like the Avengers."
"Well, thank you, we try." She replied, laughing at the comment. "Can I at least be Iron Man, then?"
Harvey laughed, grabbing Sabrina's hand, starting to walk away and crushing Daphne's heart. "You can totally be Iron Man."
As they walked away, Daphne pulled on the sleeve of Fred's baseball jersey. "Can I take you up on that offer now?" He nodded quickly and within minutes, the group was all packed up in the Mystery Machine, and Daphne couldn't get rid of the sinking feeling still in the pit of her stomach.
