Always & Forever (A 'The Last Of Us' Fanfic)

Chapter 46

Author's Note: Alright, guys. This is the last chapter to 'Always &Forever'. I cannot believe I'm posting the last chapter already!!! Now this last chapter coincides with the video game, "The Last of Us."My story's ending is the beginning of the video game. There will be a sequel to this one but I haven't gotten around to writing it just yet but I will begin soon! I cannot wait. Thank you all for taking the time to read not only this story but my others as well!!     

Beth awoke to Sarah shaking her.

"What's going on, sweetheart?" she asked.

She reached for her pajama bottoms and put them on.

"Uncle Tommy called sounding worried," she said.

"What? What time is it? Joel?" she said.

When she turned to hear him answer, he wasn't there.

"Where's your dad?" she asked.

"I don't know. I came in to find the two of you but he wasn't here," Sarah said.

Beth looked over to her digital clock and saw that it was almost 4 in the morning.

"Okay. Let's go see where he went," Beth said.

The whole time, the TV was turned on to the news.

"There seems to be some sort of gas leak here and firefighters are trying to contain the flames," the news reporter said.

Then there was suddenly an explosion that could be felt not too far from their house.

Beth gasped and looked out the window.

"What the hell is going on?" she said to herself.

"Come on, Sarah. Let's find your dad," she said.

Beth was starting to grow worried. Where could Joel be? She took Sarah by the hand and went downstairs.

"Joel?" she called.

"Dad?" Sarah called as well.

They went to the kitchen and saw Joel's cellphone buzz. Beth went over to look at it. There were more than 9 missed calls from Tommy.

'Where the hell are you?' 'Call me.'

Those were the text messages that had also come from Tommy. There was the sound of a dog barking that suddenly stopped. Beth held Sarah protectively. They headed to Joel's office and were startled when Joel came rushing in and locked the door. He was out of breath and going through his desk drawer.

"Joel. What the hell is going on?" Beth asked.

"Beth. Sarah. Are you guys okay?" he asked.

"Yeah," they both said.

"Has anyone been in here?" he asked.

"Who would come in here?" Sarah asked.

"I need you two to stay away from the windows and doors. I was just over at the Coopers cause I heard something. They're sick. Real sick...something is going on," he said.

He pulled out his gun and loaded it.

"Dad, you're kinda freaking us out," Sarah said.

"I'm sorry, baby. Just, stay close to us okay," he said.

There was then a loud bang that came from the glass door which cause Beth and Sarah to shriek.

"Stay back!" Joel ordered.
