Love Me Like You Do (AyaKane)

Part 5

Ayato was sitting in his part of the hideout, reading over Banjou's report. His arm was wrapped around Kaneki, who just returned from a long mission and had fallen asleep on the younger ghoul. Kade was also curled up on the couch having found a space between the two ghouls.

As he was reading the report, Ayato felt Kaneki twitch in his sleep. He glanced down at him and saw him peacefully sleeping. He placed a quick kiss on top of his head and turned back to the report.

A few moments later, Kaneki twitched again, only this time he quietly mumbled something. Ayato rubbed the white-haired ghoul's arm, not taking his gaze away from the report. This continued until the older ghoul started whimpering.

"No... No, please.." Kaneki mumbled in his sleep. Concerned, Ayato put down the report and turned his attention to his boyfriend. He pulled him closer and started rubbing his back as Kaneki continued to whimper in his sleep. Kade crawled on top of the couch to avoid being crushed.

"No... No.. Get that away from me.. No. No!" Kaneki suddenly sat up and gripped the top of the couch, just missing Kade. He was shaking violently and breathing heavily as his heart was beating rapidly.

Knowing he was in a very fragile state, Ayato carefully slid his fingers in between Kaneki's and gently started rubbing his back. Kaneki turned to look at him and saw worry swimming in his blue eyes. Feeling the comforting rhythm of his back being rubbed and gazing upon his lover's face, Kaneki felt his heart rate beginning to slow and the panic starting to disappear.

Kade bumped his head against the shaking ghoul's hand, worried about his master. Kaneki shakenly moved his hand to reassure the centipede that he was fine before breaking down into tears. Ayato pulled him into his arms and continued to rub his back until he stopped shaking.

"I-It was horrible, A-Ayato," Kaneki said in between tears. "J.. J.. Jas.."

"Shhh," the blue-haired ghoul comforted him. "It was just a bad dream. It wasn't real. He isn't here." Kaneki just nodded and curled up further into Ayato's arms. He waited until the older ghoul had stopped crying before allowing Kade to crawl in between them. The centipede crawled up to Kaneki's face and gave him a kiss on the nose, causing the white-haired ghoul to crack a smile and laugh a little.

Glad that he was okay, Ayato planted a kiss on Kaneki's forehead before carefully readjusting to grab the report and continue reading.
