THE HOUR WAS FAST approaching midnight yet the Magical Congress of the United States of America still buzzed as though it was the lunch hour.

Her heels clicked rhythmically upon the dark marble tiled floor as she stepped out of the elevator, her long navy overcoat swishing in her stride. Her dark hair was sleek and tucked expertly behind one ear; the buzz of the other departments died down as she progressed into the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Only a faint mumbling of conversation could be heard in this department, being the late hour it was many Aurors had gone home to the warmth of their families. The occasional clicking of an enchanted typewriter could be heard - strange no-maj devices that MACUSA had invested in a couple of years previously to improve efficiency.

The clicking of her heels seemed to pierce the peaceful ambiance of the office, causing many gazes to flit to her to which they would receive a half smile and a shrug as the noise could not be helped.

Her eyes landed on the desk she was assigned four years previously, before her gaze faltered and focused on the witch whose desk joined onto hers.

Tina was twirling her wand through a small strand of her short, dark hair. Her brown eyes focused were glazed over which signalled to her colleague that her labyrinth of a mind was troubled on an issue blatantly obvious to the woman who was stood opposite her.

"Moping over your lover boy again, Tina?" Ada Kaur asked, as she hung her overcoat on the back of her chair and collapsed into it, in a manner that would have made her mother's skin crawl.

Tina was shaken awake from her daze, her eyes meeting Ada's that were glinting with the same mischief that radiated from the smirk that lay across her lips.
