The next morning, Alexandra stretched and kissed Liam's cheek. She slid off the bed and walked quietly to the bathroom. She threw up and stood. She curled her hair and went to her closet to put on the previous day's chosen outfit. She did her makeup and tiptoed out of the bedroom, white stilettos in her hand. She picked up a bagel and went into the garage, grabbing the keys for her Jaguar XJ Portfolio on the way. She slid into the deep, upholstered chocolate coloured seat and closed the door. She put on her shoes, sunglasses and drove off. She walked out of her car, hips swaying and pressed the lock button. Stan, her boss glanced at her appreciatively when she reached the office door. "Good morning Alexandra, feeling alright today?" He raised a brow and stared at her. Alex smiled graciously, "Yes, thank you for your concern Stan." She sidestepped Stan and walked to her desk, "You look good today." Alex raised an insolent brow and smiled, "Thank you." She lifted her hand with her wedding and engagement rings on it, the 4 karat diamonds sparkling. Stan raised his hands in surrender and strode off. Alex rolled her eyes in disgust and her best friend, Caroline laughed, her white teeth shining brightly against her light brown skin. Caroline Levison was flawless, beautiful light brown skin, pearly white teeth, big, blue-green eyes and an amazing figure, she was also subject to Stan hitting on her as well. She spun her chair, "You are so good at getting him to give up." Alex flung her hair over her shoulder, "Only reason I am is because I'm married. You need to be careful Carrie, you're not married and he might be more aggressive towards you." Caroline grinned, "I've got it covered Alex, just chill. You know I got this. Anyway, I have a date with Dante tonight and I got a new dress. You HAVE to come over to see it!" Caroline slapped Alex's desk, she jumped and grinned. "Okay, I'll come over to help you get dressed up." Her smile dimmed and she sighed, "Carrie..Liam thinks I'm pregnant. I- I'm gonna take a test today....can you take a test with me?" Carrie gasped, "Are you pregnant?! Are you late?" Alex blushed and fidgeted with her pen, "Umm yeah. Just a week though and you know I'm late sometimes. I just want to take a test because Liam is worried because I stayed home yesterday because I was throwing up all day...then Liam came home...." Alex's face flushed red and giggled, "I can't wait until you and Dante get married." Carrie grinned, "Of course I'll take the test with you! I can't believe it! If you are pregnant...what will happen to your career?" She whispered. Alex sighed, "I've thought about that and I believe that if I am pregnant, I will stay home with my child because he or she will be more important to me than my career." Carrie smiled, "I'm proud of you Alex. I've always hoped you'd do that. I believe a career is not as important as a child. When are we going to do the test?" Carrie hugged Alex. Alex smiled, "After work, at your house, so we can see your new dress and see if I'm pregnant." She spun her chair around and started to type. " Alexandra Peterson to Stan's office please." Alex's head swung toward Carrie and the two friends swallowed hard. Alex nervously walked to Stan's office. She knocked gingerly then entered, "Yes sir?" Stan motioned for her to sit. Alex sat gingerly on the edge of her seat and swallowed. "Alexandra, you've done exceptionally in your work here as a new lawyer. Many of our clients want you to represent them as their lawyer in harder, more crucial court cases." Stan stood and walked around Alex's chair. Alex suppressed a shudder and nodded, "I enjoy working here. I'm pleased that our clients esteem me so highly." Stan nodded and steepled his fingers and leaned in close, his breath tickling the tiny hairs on the back of her neck. She shifted forward, "I want to promote you. You would be working very, very close to me." He whispered in a husky voice. Alex shuddered and stood, "Thank you Stan, for this remarkable promotion. As you know, I would need to talk to my husband Liam, about this. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to work." She grasped the door handle and gasped when she felt a warm, firm grip on her arm. "Are you running from me Alexandra? I hear black women never run." Stan yanked her toward him and dipped his head toward her lips. Alex pulled on her arm frantically and then slapped Stan across the face, "You're right, black women don't run, they retreat before they hurt someone." Chest heaving, Alex fled the office, convinced Carrie they needed to leave work early and drove to her house in their cars. Alex and Carrie had reached Carrie's door when suddenly, Alex collapsed onto the porch. "Alex!?! Alexandra!" Carrie cradled Alex's head and smacked her cheek. When Alex's head lolled to the side, she gasped and searched for her phone, dialing 9-1-1. When the ambulance arrived, Carrie started to sob and she went into the ambulance with a very still Alex. She called Liam, "Hello?"
"Liam...it's Caroline."
"Caroline, how are y-"

"Something's happened to Alex. We're in the ambulance on the way to the hospital."

"Wait. What ha-"

"I'm sorry, I have to go now." Caroline hung up and pushed Alex's bed into the Emergency. She held Alex's limp hand as the doctor quickly assessed Alex. Liam burst through the curtain. "Mike! What's wrong with her?"

The doctor raised his eyebrows, "Is this your wife? Man, Liam she's gorgeous."

Liam gripped Alex's hand, "Yes I know, not now Mike. What's wrong?"
Mike shrugged, "I don't know yet. Has she had any symptoms lately?"

Liam nodded, "She threw up all day yesterday, but that was it. She complained of a stomach ache and that she was stressed out. That's it."
Mike grinned, "Are you sure? Liam, we're going to take a few tests. She should come to in a little while." Mike took the vial filled with blood and left the room. Liam laid his head onto Alex's chest and tears leaked out of the corners of his eyes. Alex stirred and blinked. She gulped and Liam shoved a bowl into her hands. She vomited then moaned. Liam stroked her forehead, "Honey...how do you feel?"

Alex took Liam's hand and kissed it, "Like yesterday. Sick. Where am I?" Mike walked in and smiled, "Hello Mrs. Peterson. I'm your doctor, Mike Strong." Alex blinked, "What's wrong with me? Why am I at the hospital? Carrie?!" Liam stroked her leg, "Hey, hey calm down. Caroline is fine, you fainted at her door. Mike did some tests and he has the results now." Mike nodded and grinned at them both. "Congrats you two! Mrs. Peterson, you're pregnant! About 5-6 weeks pregnant to be exact." Alex gasped and Liam grinned, "Seriously Mike?!" Alex's face turned pea green, "I think I'm gonna be sick." Liam shoved the bowl under Alex's chin just in time. Mike chuckled, "Great way to welcome the news huh?" Liam shook his head, laughing. "I can't believe I didn't notice the other symptoms earlier." Mike shrugged and passed the bowl to a nurse. Alex closed her eyes, "Are you sure?" Mike nodded, "I'm pretty sure Mrs. Peterson, it is going to be a rough few months for you." Alex groaned, "Please don't tell me. Is there something I can take so that I don't feel so nauseous? Please." Alex glanced at both Mike and Liam. Liam and Mike looked at each other, "Yes, there are some stuff Honey, but they're mild, so they don't harm the baby." Alex moaned, "I'll take anything right-" She leaned over the bed and threw up into a bowl on the ground. Mike snickered, "Good luck Liam. You're gonna need it for the rest of this pregnancy and this child's life. Mrs. Peterson-" Alex lay back on her pillow, "Please, call me Alex. You and Liam are good friends and I aim to be a good friend as well." Mike nodded, "Alex, tell me. Why were you rushing home today? Your tests showed extremely dangerous levels of blood pressure for the baby which leads me to believe you were highly stressed which was why it skyrocketed and you fainted." Alex blushed, "I-I need to tell Liam. It was something at work." Mike nodded and left. Liam reached for her hand and Alex pulled away, tears sliding down her cheeks. "Hey, baby. Talk to me." Alex sighed, "I was called to Stan's office today. He's offering me a promotion. We're gonna be working pretty close together. He grabbed my arm and tried to kiss me... he didn't though Liam. I promise you. He kept breathing on my neck too." She hiccuped and touched his arm. Liam stood, eyes dark with anger. Alex scooted into a seating position. He blew out an infuriated breath and turned away from Alex, shoving the table slightly. She drew the blanket up to her chin and whimpered. Liam's head snapped around at the sound of her whimper and the anger in his eyes evaporated. He drew Alex into his arms and laid his cheek on the top of her head. "What did you do?" Alex snuggled closer to him and whispered, "I slapped him across the face." Liam snorted then howled in laughter. He kissed her cheek. Alex turned slightly, "Call Carrie in please. She must be so worried." Liam nodded and returned shortly with a shaken Caroline. She rushed into Alex's arms. "Are you alright?" Alex laughed softly and nodded, glancing quickly at Liam. He gave a quick nod, but Carrie didn't miss it. "What? Oh my gosh! You're pregnant!" Alex laughed, "Yes, 5-6 weeks pregnant." Carrie squealed and the two friends hugged tightly, laughing.
