Liam grabbed her shoulders and swung her into his arms. He laid her on the bed, tenderly. He brushed some hair off her forehead and smacked her cheek. Alex stirred and weakly swatted away Liam’s hand. She blinked and looked into Liam’s worried, grey eyes. “I’m fine.” She whispered feebly. He rubbed the back his neck and sighed. Liam climbed into the bed next to her, “No, you’re not, but you will be eventually.” He laid her head on his chest and she sighed contentedly. She closed her eyes and fell asleep. Liam sighed and nestled his cheek against her cocoa-butter fragrant hair. He watched the steady rise and fall of Alex’s chest and sighed, thoughts scrambling. What will the future hold with a baby? How will either of us keep our careers and raise a baby? Alex has fought so hard for her career and I have too… He glanced at Alex and sighed. Lord...help us..me. I need your guidance. Liam bowed his head briefly. He moved slightly, placing Alex on the pillow. When she didn't stir, but gave a little snore, Liam chuckled and left the room quietly. Alex rolled over and Liam left the door open enough to hear her.  He jogged downstairs to the kitchen, opening the fridge. He pulled out the eggs and cracked four in a bowl. He stirred them quickly and poured the yolk into a frying pan. Slightly distracted, he mixed them in the pan, the runny yolk turning into fluffy scrambled eggs. Alex appeared in the doorway and yawned. “Something smells good.” Liam grinned and took the eggs off the stove. “You're up.”

“And feeling much better thank you.” She sank into a bar stool, snagging a piece of egg out of the pan. “How am I supposed to survive another month or so of this Liam?” Liam shook his head and placed a plate full of food in front of Alex. She picked up an apple and bit into it. “Women have been pregnant, with morning sickness for centuries...I’m sure you can do this. You're tough.” He dropped a kiss on her nose. She smiled and swallowed her bite of apple and took a deep breath. “I'm going to call Stan and tell him I will be at work late.” Liam slammed the salt on the counter, whirling around to face Alex. “We talked about this Alexandra.” Alex shoveled a forkful of egg in her mouth. “You ordered, we did not talk about this. I'm not an invalid Liam.” He crossed his arms, pulling his lips into a firm line. “No work.” Alex sighed, “Liam…I'm fine and I will go to work. Stop treating me like a China doll. It's 2018 not 1817 for goodness’ sake!” She stuffed the rest of her food into her mouth and stood, stomping up the stairs. Liam rubbed a hand over his jaw and followed her. Alex slipped into medium washed, high-waisted jeans. She was just finished tugging on a black, long-sleeved fitted top when Liam appeared. She pursed her lips and marched past him, to the bathroom. She stood in front of the mirror and brushed back her hair, pulling it into a tight ponytail.  She picked up her lipgloss and swiped it across her lips. Liam appeared in the doorway, leaning against the door frame. Alex gulped back sudden tears, “What? Next you'll be telling me I can't visit my own family won’t you Dr. Peterson?” Alex spat out the words ‘Dr. Peterson’ and hastily wiped away the stubborn tears from her cheeks. Liam took steps towards Alex. Alex put up her well manicured hand and shook her forefinger, “Do not come any closer. Nothing you say or do will dissuade me. You hear me? Nothing!” Liam took another step, “Stop!” Alex glared up at him and brushed past him, back into the bedroom. “Have a good day Dr. Peterson.” Tears clogged her throat and she sniffed. She hurriedly slipped on her knee-high black boots, avoiding Liam’s eyes. She grabbed her keys, purse and glasses, then fled the house. Alex went into her car and started crying. She drove down her parent's avenue. As she started to slow down, she shook her head and drove to Caroline’s. As she walked up the sidewalk to the door, she peered into the window. There in the living room stood Caroline and Dante, kissing passionately. She gulped more tears and started walking back to her car. When she got home, she sank on the couch. She pressed the voicemail button and sighed, Liam’s angry voice filling the large room. “Hello Alexandra. I am going to be late tonight. Do not wait up.” She sighed then cried out, clutching her stomach. She picked up the phone and dialed Liam’s number. “Hello?”

“Liam! Something's wrong...with the baby.”

“I'm on my way. Stay put.” Alex nodded then cried out again. 15 minutes later, Liam sprinted up the stairs to their bedroom. Alex lay in the bed, clutching her stomach and moaning. “Alex!”

“Liam! Hurry, I'm bleeding. Do something please! Don't let me lose our baby!” Alex cried out. Liam flipped the blankets down and sucked in a quick breath. “We're going to the hospital. Now!” He lifted her off the bed, and ran downstairs to his car. When they got to the hospital. Alex looked at him with fear filled eyes, “Liam...I’m scared.” Liam left her room and paged Mike. He burst through the curtain, “We need to stop the bleeding Liam. Calm down and help me.” Alex’s eyes drooped as she fell into a medicated slumber.

Alex shifted and placed a hand on her stomach, eyes opening slowly. “Liam?” She croaked. He took her hand. “You've been asleep for 4 hours. The baby is safe for now. You both will be fine.” Alex eyes fluttered and she forced them open. “Relax. You'll be okay…” Liam’s voice drifted off as Alex fell back to sleep. She awoke again later, eyes straining against the lights. Liam’s soft snores made Alex smile. “Liam.” She rubbed his hand. He opened his eyes and smiled at her. “Baby, you're awake. How do you feel?” She bit her lip. “I feel tired..Liam..are you sure our baby is alright? What was wrong?” Liam sighed and took her hand, “You were having premature bleeding..kind of like labor. You've been doing lots strenuous stuff, physical and mental and that was too much for the baby. You're on bed rest for the remainder of this trimester. Alex..you cannot go back to work. You will kill this baby and yourself.” Alex nodded, then turned her face away, pulling her hand out of his. Liam ran a hand over his face, sighing. Alex’s shoulders began shaking as she quietly sobbed. Liam got on to the bed beside her and wrapped his arms around her shaking frame. She turned toward him and sobbed harder, “Oh Liam!” She hiccupped and Liam lifted her chin. Tears pooled in her green-grey eyes. “Oh Alex honey. The baby is alright and now..you know better.” She nodded, “I just..can't...stop...crying.” She sobbed, gripping his shirt. Liam chuckled, “I know.”

“This isn't funny! Stop it!” Alex sobbed harder, pushing Liam away. He pulled her close and wiped her tears. “Hush baby. Everything is alright.” Alex sniffed and sighed, snuggling closer in Liam’s arms. “It’s normal to cry often when you’re pregnant. I just distinctly remember you saying before our wedding that if you ever got pregnant, you would not bawl over everything like Georgina.” Alex sniffed, “That was before I knew morning sickness was hell and that my hormones would be wack. Please, don’t laugh.” Liam sighed, “Of course sweetheart. I’ll stop.” He rubbed her back and hugged her tighter. Alex sighed, and relaxed in his arms. Soon, her eyes began to droop and her head lolled against Liam’s shoulder. He looked down at her face and sighed, kissing her hairline softly.
