Chapter 2

Alex glanced at Liam, who was closing the door to their house. She smiled, slowly removing her shoes. She straightened and started down the hall. Liam grabbed her from behind and deftly lifted her into his arms. “You are so beautiful. I love you.” He whispered against her lips. Before Alex could reply, he kissed her softly. He slowly walked down the hall to their room.

    Alex yawned and stretched. She reached a well manicured hand to Liam’s side of the bed and touched his chest. He stirred slightly and turned away from her. She giggled and climbed out of bed. She walked to her closet and picked out a super tight black long-sleeved dress with white going down her sides. She chose her favorite white pumps and picked up her Nine West white purse. She quietly went to the bathroom and put on her makeup. Liam got up and walked sleepily to the bathroom. Alex swiped her wine coloured matte lipstick across her lips a last time and smiled at Liam, “Hey sleepyhead.” She turned back to the mirror and gently pulled a curl looser. Liam came up behind her and turned her around, slowly. Alex kissed him softly then pushed against his arms, “Liam honey, I’m gonna be late for work.” She murmured, “I’m off tomorrow, you make sure you are off….” Alex abruptly stopped talking and shoved Liam from in front of her. She raced toward the toilet and threw up. Liam pulled back Alex’s hair and then pulled her into his arms. She lay there for a second then turned and threw up again. She stood slowly and collapsed against his chest. Liam lifted her up and laid her on the bed, “What did you eat?” He asked, brushing sweaty hairs off her forehead. Alex groaned, “I haven’t eaten anything yet..I didn’t eat anything last night either. I’m gonna be late for work Liam, I’ll just take some Gravol.” She tried to sit up then lay back down to still the nausea.  “Nope, you’re gonna stay home and so am I. Doctors have to take care of their spouses as well.” He kissed her forehead and went to call Alex’s boss. Alex groaned and ran for the bathroom again. Liam came back into the room and lay down beside Alex. She groaned and rolled on her side. “I feel so sick. I’m going to go get some crackers.” She rose slowly and went downstairs to the kitchen. Liam following close behind, “I have to go to the hospital, Simon called saying one of my patients is in labor. Will you be alright?” He shrugged into a shirt and placed an arm around Alex. She nodded, “Yeah, I’ll be home all day. I’ll b-be...” She placed a hand over her mouth and ran down the hall. Liam groaned and followed Alex, “I don’t want to leave you.” He pulled Alex to his chest. Alex gulped and groaned, “Liam..I’ll be fine, I’ve had food poisoning before, I can deal with it.” She pulled away and threw up all over Liam. Her eyes went wide with horror and embarrassment and she dashed to their bedroom. Liam laughed and followed Alex, stripping off his shirt and going to his closet. He put on a new shirt and glanced toward Alex, lying on the bed, nauseous and mortified. He chuckled and sat on the bed, caressing her leg, “I’ve been vomited on many times before you did it to me, Sweetheart. It most likely won’t be the last.” He rubbed his neck, “Baby, I have to go now, you will be okay right?” He kissed her cheek and pushed a sweaty strand of hair from her forehead. She nodded, “I’ll be fine. I’ll wash your shirt, I’m so, so sorry.” She kissed him gently then lay back down. Liam left, shutting the door quietly. Alex yawned and closed her eyes. She groaned, brushed the persistent hair touching her cheek, and blinked her eyes slowly, looking up. She gasped and scrambled up. Liam chuckled, “Hello sugar. How’d you sleep?” He leaned over and kissed her forehead.  Alex groaned, “ You gave me a heart attack and now I have a headache. What time is it?” She lay back, exhausted and slightly nauseous. Liam looked down at her, concerned, “You okay?” Alex nodded, “ 6:45. You need to get up and eat something. I brought you fries.” He held out his hand and Alex grasped it and slid to the edge of the bed. She stood and kissed Liam slowly, “Mmm..fries sound good, but I think I’ll be happy with the full course meal I have right here.” She arched a brow and kissed Liam harder. Liam kissed her back and Alex melted. He pulled away, grinning and kicked the door shut. An hour later, Alex delicately ate a fry, all the while smiling lazily at Liam. He glanced at her and sighed, “Are you gonna stare at me like that all night?” He asked in a husky voice. She giggled, “I’m just happy. Can’t I stare at you?” She placed a hand on her hip. Liam strode over, grabbed her hand and pulled her close, “Not like that you can’t.” He answered, grabbing her neck and pulling her close for a kiss. Alex turned to mush in his arms and pulled away, chest heaving, gasping for air. Liam grinned, seemingly unfazed. She shook her head and turned back to her food, “Ok..I won’t stare at you.” She chewed on a fry. Liam laughed and sat down. Sweating and distracted by Liam’s roguish grin, she changed the subject. “How was the labor of your patient?” She ducked her head and stuffed another fry into her mouth. Liam chuckled, “It was good, she had a healthy boy.” He frowned for a minute and peered at Alex. She self-consciously wiped her mouth then spoke, “What’s wrong?”

“Have you had your period lately?” Alex frowned, “No...It’s not late….wait..it is.. Oh Liam!” She scowled then the realization hit her full force. Liam stood and took Alex’s hand, “Come with me. Do you still have the pregnancy tests I gave you?” Alex pulled away, “Liam wait, I’ve been late before and I only threw up today. If I throw up a lot tomorrow, I will take a test.” Liam sighed and nodded, “Fine.” He grinned and lifted Alex into his arms, “What are you doing!?!” She shrieked laughingly. He grinned and nuzzled her neck, “I guess you’ll find out in a while huh?” He murmured against her collarbone. She kissed his whiskered cheek wistfully. “Alright.” She whispered and allowed Liam to carry her up the stairs and to their bedroom.
