Payton has been friends with the Hensley cousins Colton and Jace since she was nine years old and has been in love with Colton for almost just as long. Colton and Jace are absurdly attractive and at times Payton can't believe how fortunate she is considering the fact that she believes herself to be nothing but a 'plain Jane' with her thrift store clothing and large eyeglasses. 

 Payton views Jace as more of a brother than she ever has Colton. Colton has always been the intriguing one and the reckless one while Jace is caring and lighthearted and has been there for her in ways that Colton has failed to do so. 

When the three of them take off to college, everything changes. Colton begins drinking excessively and sleeping with countless amounts of women while Jace dates his girlfriend Riley whom he met when they were all juniors in high school. Payton is completely certain of her feelings for Colton and she feels that she will never love another man while she patiently waits for Colton to realize just how much she cares about him, even after he begins taking advantage of her. However, a drunken night between Jace and Payton changes everything, confounding her and awakening feelings for Jace that she never even knew that she had and in the end, it leaves her torn between the two.

Ergh! I should take the author notes seriously. This book did make my heart torn apart. Emotional roller coaster? check! Torn apart? Check! I've to go through this hell journey in order for me to know whether this book is worthy enough for my little time. Hell yeah! It did! Truly worth reading.

I know some people might hate Payton. She knows how to annoy you level infinity. She doesn't have a lot of friends except Hensley, roommate (Emily) and coworker(Rachel). For Colton, she's like a booty call (in a good way).Needs her when he makes a mess or in trouble. For years, she put so much hope in Colton and expecting him to return her undying love. Like Payton always be there for Colton so do Jace always be there for her.

Everyone is aware of Jace's feelings for her including her parents but she seems oblivious to his feelings. Turn to blind eye because of Colton. Payton is always wearing a grandmother clothes and I'm glad when she stands up on her own the way she dress up. (Let me remind you, don't belittle someone because of her/his appearance. That's their body and they can do whatever they want.) One day, Payton realised, Colton would never return her love and the companion in his bed always in sexy outfits with make up on.

She decided to change her appearance. I don't think she changed because of Colton. She changed because she wants to start something new. Live her new life without Hensley's by her side. She doesn't know how to deal with a deep sense of longing towards Jace. This feeling is new and she never realised until  Jace decided to leave her. Thing happens... And drama started....

This is hard to differentiate between love and lust. Because in love there will be always has lust. If you can lay in bed just listening to your partner's heartbeat and talking all night long hell it must be love not lust. Also, in minute you see yourself in the toxic relationship please runaway as fast as you can. Toxic relationship is tricky to get away. It can put you in guilty position and believing your decision to run away will hurt another person.

Note to myself: If you wanted to read this book again. Please remember to brace yourself before riding a emotional roller coaster.
