Vickey rushed into Nancy's room, pushing the door a little too hard, which she soon found out with the sound of its slam that rang through her still sleepy head.
"Nancy! Nancy wake up!" Before Vickey knew it she was leaping onto the bed and shaking Nancy's sleeping body violently.
As she slowed down and eventually stopped, Vickey realised that there was something wrong. Nancy was shivering. She was sweating furiously and her thighs were bleeding slightly where her finger nails had dug into them as she lay wrapped up into a tight ball.
"Nancy..." Vickey could feel Nancy's shivers vibrating through her own bones. Vickey's hands let go of Nancy slowly, shocked by the sight of this poor woman, too deep in sleep to realise what was going on.
"Okay. What to do..." Vickey began to talk to herself, she knew what was wrong but she had aways been the one who was shivering, not calming.
"What about... um, Nancy..." She lay on the bed cautiously, lifting the heavy duvet from Nancy's body to reveal a large yellow stain in the sheet. "Nancy? Nancy, can you hear me?"
Vickey lay her mouth near to Nancy's ear, trying to stay calm and not over react, She had been through this many times and knew how it felt but never had she needed to calm herself down, she had had her father for that.
"Um, how about a lullaby..." Vickey drew a breath. Lightly but deeply filling up her lungs that felt as if they were being strangled with the nerves and shock.
The gentle hum of Vickey's shaking voice filled the room, the echos bouncing off of the dark walls as Nancy's shivers turned into rocking.
Vickey knew this stage, she had awoken rocking back and forth in a pool of urine many nights before, her father by her side, reading one of her favourite story books.
"Nancy?" Vickey placed her shaking hand on Nancy back.
It was freezing cold. Vickey touched Nancy's forehead; it was boiling hot. How was Nancy in such a state? What had happened?!
"Nancy?Nancy... are you awake?" vickey tried once more, singing the lullaby twice through before embracing Nancy in a huge hug.
"What h...happened?" Vickey was surprised to hear the half sobbing voice of Nancy from under her tangled mass of hair.
"You were having a nightmare is all. I know what it's like. I used to get them." Vickey straight into Nancy's frightened eyes. She reminded her of a child, vulnerable and afraid.
"He treid to kill my baby... He had a knife?..."
Nancy's confused voice erupted into wails and weeps as Vickey wrapped her arms around Nancy tighter.
"It's okay Nancy, It's okay! I'm here now. He can't get you here."

"So... Was I really shivering?"
Viskey folded up the bed sheet and stuffed it into the washing machine, watching Nancy, still inshock, drinking her hot chocolate out of her Tiger mug.
"Yeah. But it's okay. I used to get it even worse until I was 13. I used to scream and wail and thrash about. Once I evenpunched my dad without even realising..."
She tried to smile, her face doing ita best to light up with some form of kindness but Nancy wasn't even looking.
"What was your nightmare about Nancy? Who's 'he'?"
Vickey tried not to sound patronising but Nancy reminded her more and more of a young girl; alone, lost and frightened of the world.
"Him... Br...Brendan... He was chasing me, he had a knife. He was trying to kill my baby!"
Nancy's hand suddenly, instinctivly, went to her now large bump. Vickey could feel what Nancy was going through. Being around here wasn't doing her any good. Realisation suddenly hit her. This would be the perfect time to talk Nancy into leaving.
"Nancy. I think you need to leave. I mean we, need to leave. Get away from here and more importantly, away from Brendan. He isn't doing you any good. What if he really did hurt the baby? Maybe not now ut what about once it is born..."
Vickey could see the shock on Nancy's face, she had convinced her.
"Okay. Okay but we have to do it now!"
