Chapter 2- The concert
not edited
Having written the name in her small notebook she finished her coffee and with that she left the coffee shop. It was starting to get dark and as she was walking down the cold streets of New York, she kept looking and reading at the title she wrote "Phonological differences between British and American accents in music" she was not sure if it was going to be the title of her thesis, since it was not professional at all. Could it be original? Maybe...
She was thinking of the different ways she could change that title when she suddenly bumped in to a bunch of people standing right outside what seemed to be the Beacon Theater. It was only 7 o'clock and people were already outside waiting to get inside. This band must be huge she thought to herself and she moved aside from the people that were already drunk singing some catchy songs outside.
She made herself to the box offices where they sold the tickets and to her bad luck, they were all already sold out. She needed to think in other alternatives on how to get in. as she was lost in thought her eye caught an empty alley besides the theater which would be good for her to think on what her next move should be.
As she walked and thought on how she would get there, she saw some drunk guys discussing in a door for what seemed to be the entrance of backstage. She knew they were drunk because of the drinks that were on their hands, she stood there quietly as the saw the four guys discussing on something, but she could not make out what. They all seemed to agree on something and went inside with the last guy with blond long hair finished a cigarette and attempted to close the door but failed as it flew open. For Madeline's surprise he did not notice since no one went back to the door to close it. That is when she got the idea to get into backstage, it was a great opportunity to get to know the environment of the concert and the British accents. It was probably the only opportunity she would have to get in.
Without hesitation she walked to the door and carefully looked at both her sides and entered the building. It was a dark hall that she was in and could barely make out where the four guys went to. She continued to walk until she reached a door and she opened it slowly and looked at the room, there were a lot of people running from left to right, shouting through what seemed to be some handheld transceiver if everything was set. There were a lot of things going on and Madeline was surprised by the amount of staff that was behind the scenery.
"Hey what are you doing here?" a tall man asked Madeline
She began to panic and could not say a single word, the men just kept looking at her with a curious face and when Madeline was ready to talk
"You should get back to the dressing areas arranging the clothes and move" the men said without looking back at her and left.
He must of have though she was from staff which was a perfect excuse to stay inside the building. Now she just needed to find the dressing area, the place was huge and crowded, she did not know what to do. She looked for a while for the dressing room but did not find it when she suddenly pumped into someone.
"Watch it" an angry voice said.
"I'm sorry, I just can't stop doing that." she looked back at the blond guy with green eyes and a beer in his hand. Ashamed with what had just happened. The less thing she needed was to get people's attention.
"Yeah, I can see that. Who even are you?" The blondie guy asked with a very confused face as he had never seen that girl before.
She noticed that he had a British accent which made her think he was definitely one of the people that helped the band. She rapidly answered to his question since she did not want to look suspicious.
