Tyler would almost skip home, bounce in his step and a smile on his face. He'd pause, realizing such.

He'd look down at his toes, up at the sky, and finally at the trees around him. He'd try to shake off the butterflies that had claimed his stomach as home, spreading to his brain and clouding his senses with foolish happiness.

Once home, he'd skip up to his room, tossing off his layers, plopping into bed, and squealing into his pillow. Once the fit of pink cheeks and carefree grins was over, Tyler would shoot up in his bed.

He liked Josh.

No, no, no, no, no!

Tyler pulled out his whiteboard and made a list- organization never failed to calm his nerves.

He'd map out a T-chart, labeling one side "pros" and the other "cons".

He'd chew his pen, plotting and planning until he sat back.

Pros: Abs, smile, that bark-laugh thing that he does, the way he softly chuckles, cool ass tats, abs, Josh, not being single, love?

Cons: what if he doesn't like you, you could ruin the friendship, he's a spirit, gay, are you even mentally prepared for a relationship?

Tyler would chew his lips nervously, a habit that had been growing on him recently.

"You can't." Tyler would tell himself. "Dating Josh is something you want. Being friends with Josh is something you need." He'd sigh, staring bleakly out the window.

"Tyler." Would come a loud abrasive voice from the door, causing him to flinch instinctively.

"Yes, dad?" Tyler would do his best to force out the words, despising the fact that he was forced to call this man his father.

"What are you doing." He'd snap.

Tyler would only shrug a response, making his dad growl, "Gimmie that."

Tyler would try to slyly wipe the board against his legs, erasing what he could before handing it to his dad.

"What is this gibberish."

"Just an outline for an essay in school." Tyler would mumble, taking interest in a tree outside his window.

Tyler's dad would snap the board over his knee. "Bullshit. Your attitude lately has been absolute disrespect for no reason. I put a roof over your head and food on your plate, but you're still an ungrateful brat. You know what- you're not allowed down in that stupid forest anymore. I know you're meeting some girl out there, that's the 'we', huh?!" He'd explode, tossing the board pieces aside.

"D-dad," Tyler would try to defend himself, but was met with the slamming of the door as his dad exited his room.

Tyler would reach up slowly onto his bed and pull down his blanket, covering his face to stifle his sobs.
