Ariana's stomach grumbled. She looked up at the clock and saw there was three minutes until lunch. Ariana rested her head on her hand as her teacher rambled on.
Ariana was in line for lunch which was mashed potatoes, gravy, applesauce, and a milk carton. She was heading to the table her and Jai sat at every day when someone bumped into her. Her tray flipped over onto her clothes. The drop of the tray made everyone's attention turn to Ariana. Then they all started laughing, as usual. Ariana held back tears of embarrassment and bent down to pick up her tray.
"Need some help?" someone asked.
Ariana looked up and a boy she'd seen once or twice around school was kneeling next to her.
"Oh, yeah. Thanks," Ariana replied and stood back up.
"I'm Jason, by the way," Jason said.
"Ariana."
"That's a beautiful name, Ariana. And so are you."
Ariana blushed.
"So, do you wanna sit with me?" He pointed to a table to the left of them.
"Uh," she thought about Jai for a second then looked at Jason and completely forgot about Jai, "Sure."
Jai walked into the cafeteria. He was late for lunch because his teacher had held him back after class. He quickly walked to the lunch line and got his lunch. Jai headed to the table that he and Ariana sat at everyday but stopped when he didn't see her. Maybe she's late, Jai thought. He sat down and stared at the door. He didn't want to start eating until Ariana got there. They ate lunch together everyday and he especially wanted to talk to her today because he finally felt the courage to tell her how he really felt about her. Then he heard a really familiar laugh to the left of him. Ariana. He turned his head over to where the laugh came from. He saw Ariana sitting and eating lunch with another boy, and his
heart sunk.
