HER HEART beat erratically against her chest as whispers echoed in her ears
i'm losing my mind.
when the figure in the mirror disappeared she hurried out the tub and grabbed a towel to wrap herself in before she got to the doorknob
she tried twisting the knob as she shivered from the cold air of the bathroom, whispering self-reassuring nothings incoherently to herself.
everythings gonna be alright
the door finally broke open and the breath she'd been holding finally left her throat; she shut the bathroom door and leaned against it, breathing hard and heavy until her heart started to burn
the voices suddenly stop and the chilly breeze was gone, she thought everything went back to normal
until she looked up and saw a boy in front of her—
"what the fuck"
his back was facing towards her
her swearing got him to turn around
his light blonde hair was the first thing she noticed
the way his bang fell in front of his face, reaching his serene yet piercing ocean blue eyes that stared at her underneath his naturally furrowed dark eyebrows—the last thing she noticed about his face was his lips, like they'd only spoke of poetry and beauty words; they looked soft.
the room got cold again and kimberly prayed it wasn't because she dropped her towel out of shock
she let out a breath before gripping her towel tight against her, her eyes never leaving his and his never leaving hers. she shut her eyes tight and told herself that she was dreaming,
the boy would disappear if she opened her eyes
he's not real kim
kimberly opened them and he was gone.
she didn't know whether or not to feel relieved about his disappearance but she quickly shook her head at herself about it
"don't be stupid you didn't know him" she told herself before stepping carefully away from the bathroom door and more into her room, looking around carefully.
she almost lost it when she suddenly felt his breathing on her shoulder, the proximity of his body and the intensity of his eyes as they bore into her neck—he was right behind her.
she shut her eyes and gulped "you're not real"
"you're the devil and i cannot, will not, and shall not have anything like that near me." she spoke as calm as she could, hoping she sounded confident cause she wasn't.
then this white boy had the audacity to touch her
he put his dangerous lips against her ear
"i've seen satan and trust me,"
kimberly held her breath,
"i'm way better looking"
she pivot around to face him but he was gone.
"where are you, show yourself." kimberly forced but he didn't come back
kimberly stood there and let minutes past to wait for him to appear
she wouldn't get dressed until she knew that he wasn't watching her, her patience was running thin
"white boy i am so serious right now if you—"
"kimberly, quit talking to yourself and come help me cook!" her mother hollered from downstairs in the kitchen
kimberly groaned
"coming!"
she turned around before looking cautiously around her room, pointing an accusing finger at thin air
"look white boy if i find out that you're watching me change: you've got another thing coming!" she was so telling her mom about this.
but as expected her mother looked at her like she was crazy as hell,
"kimberly are you playing jokes on me? cause i don't like jokes"
kimberly shook her head, now dressed for bed and afraid, "mom i don't know if he snuck into the house or something but he's there in my room, i know it."
her mother gave her a look before saying, "go to bed, you're tired from your game and now you're seeing things."
kimberly grunted up to her room until she relaxed into her bed, exhausted mentally and physically
maybe i was seeing things
she fell asleep quite easily, feeling safe under her blankets and with some kind of inner feeling that someone was looking after her—to make sure the bad people couldn't come close to her. she thought the spirit would be her father.
but instead she fell asleep under the protection of the boy she threatened not even 30 minutes ago
