Chapter 4: The Strange Island

Edd's POV

I let him put me on my shoulders, and he began walking. He walked with such ease it made me feel better because I finally wasn't making someone miserable. We are going to get food, yes! I'm so hungry, they haven't fed me good food in so long. The food smelled good, even though we appeared to be miles away from it.

He walked through the forest, and I almost forgot that necklace of his made him look like a human, when he was really a monster. He doesn't act like one though, maybe he was raised by humans? He set me down rather quickly and stood over me, cuddling to me and blocking the arrows that got shot. I was shocked and didn't know what happened. I just laid there.

After a few I heard footsteps and some chatter in a different language. They walked over and pulled Tom off of me, he was still alive but in pain. Then they grabbed me, and knocked me out. I woke up quite suddenly as I felt a pain in my back, turns out I was on the floor, with a metal rod with a symbol at the end in my back. The symbol had been heated and they forcefully shoved it into my back. They left a mark there, they had burned my skin.

I knew of this method, it's what they do to mark what is theirs so maybe.. I was back with some settlers? I don't think settlers would speak a foreign language though.. After some of the pain was lifted, I knew that the people had left and I opened my eyes. I looked around and gasped.

I was in a Native prison segment. They thought I was native? I don't understand I look just like them, I don't get how I'm here.. What's going on. I-I- I can't do this!

Tom's POV

I looked around the area I was in, it was covered with blood and dead animals. I'm assuming I'm going to be the next meal. I heard panicked breathing and looked around frantically. My eyes landed on a door and I barged through. I saw Edd sitting in a place with others.. Were they trying to comfort him? I just squinted and watched.

He was panicking, clearly. Does he know where we are? I slowly walk over and I get stopped by my back stinging. I put my hand there and feel that I have some arrow holes in my back. I shake the pain off and continue. Edd looked up at me and smiled a bit. I walked closer and sat on my knees. I stared and him and he stared back. Then I heard the slam of a door and a strange man burst through. I immediately hide the best I can and try to stay in the shadows. The others that were around Edd run off back to where they had come and the man stared at Edd.

I watched him, ready to make a move if necessary. I would not lose another friend.

Edd's POV

I sat there, breathing hard and heavy. I don't know where I am and this man that is standing over me isn't very calming. He eyes me up and down before grabbing my arm and pulling me up, I guess he assumed for me to stand up and follow him but he just ended up yanking me up and dragged me a bit.

He turns his head and just looked me in the eyes. I felt like crying, the last time someone looked me in the eyes it only meant trouble. He gestured for me to stand up, I tried but only fell. He nodded and picked me up, slinking me over his shoulder. I watch behind him as Tom peeks out and looks extremely.. Extremely concerned.

The man that was carrying me practically threw me down onto a rug and opened his mouth, but then decided against it, as I'm assuming he thought I wouldn't understand. He thought a bit then opened his mouth.

"I need you to explain who you are, and why you're here."

I nodded and opened my mouth, mustered out a few muffled chokes before giving up. He gasped and.. Hugged me? This was weird; First he shoots my friend and knocks me out, now he's trying to comfort me? I sit there, quite confused before he backs up and looks me in my eyes. What is he going to do now? I shiver a bit, even though it is quite hot. I sit there, anxiously waiting for what was about to happen, of which the events were unknown to me, but you can see why I waited.. Anxiously.
