"See you at Christmas," I say
It hitches in my throat
not knowing if I'll see you.
It's hard to be faithful when
Jesus Christ you're 86 and
I'm sick and
I just don't know whether
either of us
are going to be there
but I love you
so as I walk out the door
I smile
