Christine looked at Yugi expectantly. "Well, you wanted to talk, now talk." she said crossing her arms.
Yugi sweat drops an let the pharaoh take control retreating into his soul room causing the Pharaoh to scowl. "Thanks a lot." he deadpanned.
"You're welcome." Yugi replied chipper. Christine raised an eyebrow slightly amused by their interaction.
"Christine...there has to be...something more going on than what you've shown me...there is just too many blank spots. is there....anything else that you can tell me. every time you answer a question...more questions come up I seriously just feel like I'm not getting anywhere in trying to find out about my past." the Pharaoh explained. "And since you left...I've been having these dreams about the past. Each time it gets darker and darker. It only adds more questions." he added.
"Didn't you ever think maybe you lost your memory for a reason. That maybe you just don't want to remember?" Christine asked raising an eyebrow as she stared at him thoughtfully. dreams?
The pharaoh looked away with a sigh. "Why would I not want to. You seem to hate me yet I don't really understand why." he replied.
"I don't" Christine started to say but then stopped looking away. "I don't hate you...not you," she said with a slight sigh.
Her eyes were drawn to a glow and looked over at where Bella had put the card that Yugi gave her just earlier that day.
she leaned over and pulled out the card which was glowing. "What in the world?" she asked puzzled.
"Dark Magician?" the pharaoh spoke puzzled leaning forward. as if reacting to a command The dark magician appeared in front of them and knelt down in front of them. "my Pharaoh, my lady it has been too long," he spoke. They were surprised to hear that he sounded happy but grave at the same time.
*Is that even possible?* Yugi and Bella wondered thoughtfully.
"Mahad!" Christine gasped as her hands came up covering her mouth in shock. Tears formed in her eyes and threatened to fall as she stared at him.
"Mahad? That's the guy from that vision. One of the priests were talking too," the pharaoh said as he looked at the dark magician in realization.
"The one and the same my pharaoh." the dark magician spoke with a heavy sigh.
Christine reached out and lightly poked the man's shoulder curiously. she gasped when she found the man in front of her was solid and not just a hologram. Mahad looked at her and blinked with a look that clearly stated 'why the hell did you just poke me?'
"You're really here." she whispered pulling back away from him unsure of how to process what what happening.
"I have always been here. protecting my king." Mahad replied firmly.
"Why have you shown your self now?" the Pharaoh asked confused and curious.
"I have seen the anger and hatred for far too long and I can no longer stand back and not do something. I can no longer stay quiet my pharaoh and it has not only hurt you but your wife as well" Mahad said looking up at them. they were surprised to see pain in his eyes...and guilt. "not to mention, lead to destruction of Egypt"
"what are you talking about Mahad," Christine asked getting more and more confused by the second. Why was there Guilt. he had nothing to be guilty for.
"it was I who convinced the pharaoh not to tell you what he was doing Christine. the both of us thought it best to not tell you what we were doing. we didn't want to hurt you...and get your hopes up for nothing if what we were doing never worked out" Mahad spoke hesitant and careful about which words he used as he spoke.
"what were we doing?" The Pharaoh asked looking over at Christine and then back at Mahad. Why did Christine look as though she was about to faint?
"there was a law that we were researching, in hopes to get rid of it without having to have all of the council members in agreement. there was going to be at least one who would be against getting rid of that law and we were trying to find a way around it." Mahad replied gravely. He frowned as he spoke of the topic. He clear was not happy about what ever it was. "of course we could have just killed him" he muttered to himself.
"what law? and why wouldn't you tell me? i could have helped." Christine asked looking hurt at them keeping her in the dark about something. *Why would they keep something like this from me?*
"it was for you. the pharaoh was not trying to push you away he was trying to protect you from the laws. Priest Aknadin knew the laws better than anyone there. he knew what would happen if you were to give the pharaoh an heir and that's why he pushed it so much. he wanted to get rid of you. he convinced Mana to keep hanging around the pharaoh in hopes you would isolate your self. Aknadin didn't take into account how the pharaoh truly felt about you." Mahad explained hoping that she would understand what he was saying.
Christine shook her head in disbelief. "you...your lying" she whispered as she looked down at the floor.
"you know that I would not lie to you. you know how much of a snake he is. Is it so hard to believe he would try something like that" Mahad asked looking at her surprised and a little hurt. Did she really believe that he would lie to her?
"no, I believe you about aknadin...but the pharaoh...that I cannot believe," Christine said looking away.
the pharaoh watched them unsure of what to say. none of what they were saying came to him. Why did she believe that Mahad was lying?
"this man...Aknadin what exactly did he do? he's been mentioned before. Christine and Bakura both have strong negative reactions to him." the pharaoh spoke up as he looked at Mahad.
"Aknadin loved to torture her, my pharaoh. he was the one who brought her to the palace when she was a child. her village was destroyed. you, your father, Isis, Aknadin, and my self were the only ones who knew of the truth. Aknadin- because he was the one responsible, the rest of us because she told you, herself, about what happened. pharaoh, you were the first one she learned to trust after she came to the palace" Mahad explained. Christine huffed crossing her arms.
"one, make me sound like a freak, why don't you? And two, if I wanted him to know that, then I would have told him my self," she said annoyed as she narrowed her eyes glaring at him, but she could not be angry with him. Mahad was one of the four people from her past whom she truly cared about.
"you did...when you first met him" Mahad pointed out as he looked at her confused. Christine felt her cheeks burning as she reddened.
"you know what I meant" she grumbled. "now will you just tell me what that damn law was before I change my mind about slapping you so damn hard that Anubis will feel it for that stupid suicidal stunt you pulled with my brother" she snapped.
"do I want to know?" the pharaoh asked warily with a sweat drop as he stared at Christine looking a little scared. Just what on earth did he do to piss her off?
"the idiot locked himself and my brother in the magician's training grounds for a duel. he lost hence why he is now dark magician moving on" Christine said scathingly as she glared at Mahad.
"i still remember you slapping another person for a suicidal stunt and if that's anything to go by i shall hurry and speak," Mahad said with a slight tremble. That was a horrible day!
Christine smirked glancing at the pharaoh. "then start talking because though this body may seem weak it's actually quite strong" she said threateningly.
Mahad shivered a bit. "there is a.....was a law which stated that if...when an heir is born the mother...is cut out of the baby's life...for good"
-----Authors note-----
hey sorry for another one of these. just to be clear i just totally made up that law for the sake of the story and to explain Christine's past and why she and the pharaoh's relationship is as messed up as it it. I do not know what they do in those situations I didn't do research.
