(TAEHYUNG)
"Taelie! Come on you'll be late for school!" I shouted from downstairs as I fixed my necktie.
"Coming Daddy!" I heard my little girl shout back.
"Hurry up baby girl!" I shouted again and I suddenly heard panting from behind me.
I looked back and saw my 8 years old daughter already in her uniform and a doll in her arms.
"You're bringing that doll again?" I asked and she just hugged the doll tighter.
"I want to bring Lisa with me. She's my best friend" she cooed and I just pat her head.
"Okay then, you can bring Lisa with you just don't let her disturb you in class okay?" I reminded and she nodded cutely.
I carried her in my arms and I walked towards the car. I placed her at the backseat and secured her safely before going to the driver seat.
"Are you ready to go Taelie?" I asked and she gave me a thumbs up.
I started the engine and drove her first to her school. I peaked at the mirror and saw her playing with her doll. I chuckled as I remember why I made that doll. Yup, I'm the owner of a doll company here in Seoul. I made the doll while thinking of my daughter and it turned out rather more beautiful than expected. Taelie loved it when she first saw it and whenever I saw the doll, I'm reminded of my daughter.
"By the way sweetheart. Your Mommy Joohyun wants to talk to you" I said softly and she looked sad.
"Daddy I don't want to" she whined and I sighed.
"Just for a while Taelie, she misses you" I tried to convince her but she just pouted.
"If she misses me she shouldn't have left" I heard her mumble.
"Don't be like that baby girl. It's also Daddy's fault why she left. I couldn't take care of her that much" I tried to explain.
"Daddy, whatever happens. I'll always be your little girl okay?" She said and I smiled.
"Yes Ma'am!" I answered and she giggled.
"Whatever happens, you'll also look after Lisa" she added and I looked at doll that was sitting beside her through the mirror.
"Okay, I will Ma'am" I answered.
When we arrived at her school, I got out of my car and helped Taelie out.
"Daddy's going with you later, okay? So don't worry, when we'll meet your Mommy. Are we clear?" I asked Taelie and she just nodded weakly, her smile faded.
"Come on baby, smile for Daddy?" I asked and she smiled a little and I kissed her forehead.
"I love you my little girl" I muttered and her smile grew bigger.
"I love you too Daddy" she said back and hugged me.
"Go on. Or you'll be late" I pushed her gently and she waved at me before running away to her class.
When I made sure she's already inside the school building. I then headed to work. I parked the car first and entered the company, but I didn't know there would be a visitor waiting for me.
"Taehyung!" I stopped in my tracks when I heard a familiar voice.
I looked at her and she's still the same woman whom I once married and loved but also the woman who left me and our daughter.
"Joohyun, I thought we already agreed that we will meet after Taelie's class?" I asked flatly and she just looked down.
"I came here to talk to you" she answered in a soft voice.
I sighed deeply before signaling her to follow me to my office. I let her sat on the couch as I prepared a drink for her.
"How are you and your fiancé by the way?" I asked and handed her a glass of juice.
"We already broke up" she answered and I nodded my head.
"Too bad" I said and sat down on my chair.
"So you're here to?" I asked again and she sat at the chair in front of my table.
"I'm here to say sorry Taehyung. I shouldn't have left you and Taelie. I shouldn't hurt you" she began to cry and I placed my hands on my face.
"If you're asking for forgiveness then you're forgiven. But if you're asking me to accept you again, then I'm sorry Joohyun. My daughter and I are hurt with what you did and accepting you again will just create a big mess" I said and she just sat there and cried.
Don't get me wrong. I loved Joohyun but I knew, she never felt the same way when she cheated on me. She always blames it on me being busy. How come Taelie a small kid could understand me but the woman whom I trusted my whole life with couldn't?
"Can't you really accept me again?" She sobbed and I just stayed silent.
She wiped her tears and stood up from her seat.
"I get it. See you later after Taelie's class" she said and left the office.
I breathed deeply and groaned in frustration. Why are women so complicated? I grabbed my phone and smiled when I saw the wallpaper, it was me, Taelie, and the doll I made that she loved. I furrowed my eyebrows when my phone rung. It was Taelie's teacher......
"Hello?" I answered and there were noises from the background.
If I'm not mistaken, a fire truck.
"Hello?" I called and I heard cries.
I immediately hung up the phone and headed to Taelie's school. I drove as fast as I could, I don't care if I'm overspeeding, my daughter needs me. When I arrived, my hunch was right. The school was on fire.
"Taelie!" I called out once I got out of the car.
I kept on calling her name through the chaos that is happening. But she never answered. Then, I saw her teacher, kneeling in front of burned bodies of children.
But what made my world stopped, was that she was kneeling in front of my daughter's lifeless body.
"No"
I run to her and tried to wake her up. My tears are falling and I don't care. My daughter isn't dead yet. She's not.
"Taelie? Baby? Daddy's here wake up" I gently tapped her cheek but she won't wake up.
"Please don't do this to Daddy please" I cried.
I just cried. I hugged her tight as I just cried. That's all I can do right now. Why? I just left her for a few hours, and this happened? I just waved goodbye for a few moments and now she's gone.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Kim,.....she was supposed to be here with us outside but she entered the building again. She was crying, calling out to someone.....she was looking for her doll"
Doll?
I looked at the doll laying beside her. It was unscathed. It was the same as the last time I saw it, clean and unscathed.
"She risked her life..... For a doll that I made?" I asked myself as I gripped on the doll.
"I can make her many more of this but why?" My heart is in denial, I know.
I just lost the only one thing that I'm living for. I just lost my daughter over something that I did, that I created.
"Mr. Kim.... Taelie was a good child. I'm so sorry for your loss" I felt a tap on my shoulder,
As I continue to mourn for my daughter.
My angel.....
