chapter 2. Grandmother's...
__"-call me when you get the chance. [Name] misses you, but otherwise she's fine..."
Another voice mail.
You east-dropped from on top the stairwell, your arms wrapped around your knees tightly. A few tears glossing your vision.
Grandma had told you to go upstairs while she placed the cookies in the oven, but you stopped hearing her sigh and pick up the landline.
Her voice sounding disappointed and upset.
Hearing her heavy footsteps coming up the stairs, you quickly jumped up and ran into the guest room.
A plain white room with only one window, a small closet to your left, fuzzy purple carpeting, and a queen-size bed. Tossing your backpack in the closet you turned to climb onto the bed.
Kicking off your shoes you eyed the door awaiting for your grandma, you knew she was coming to see you. And as if on cue she stumbled into the room her face held a kind smile, one in which you returned.
"All settled?" She asked.
"Yeah."
She nodded her head and looked around, "maybe we could get you some wardrobes a couple posters?" Her offer sweet but not changing your current mood.
Still you wanted to be brave, if not for yourself then for her.
"That sounds good," you nodded standing up.
Holding out her hand she gestured for you to follow her, quickly you slipped back on your shoes.
Grasping her hand you followed her to the backyard, a forest of trees and land.
"I don't think I've introduced you to Simon yet, have I?"
Your face scrunched up in confusion, "no." You shook your head.
"I know he'd love to meet you, he's very fond of children." She smiled giving your hand a light squeeze, leading you a tad bit deeper into the forest.
"I met Simon about a month ago, he helps me around the house. I've told him so much about you, and he seemed excited to meet you."
Slowly the both of you made your way over to a small patch of leafs, beside stood a slim tall man. His head covered in a mop of blonde, eyes a piercing blue, and a gentle smile curled the ends of his lips.
"Hello, you must be [Name]? How very nice to meet you."
His voice was deep and husky.
"Hi.." you smiled meekly, waving your hand shyly.
Simon chuckled in amusement kneeling down on one knee, his arm stretched out for you to shake his hand. "I can tell we're going to get along great."
Something in the way he had said that sent waves of shivers up your spine. Simon's smile seemed to turn wicked for a minute without your grandmother noticing, his eyes turning dark. You stepped back slowly trying to pull back your hand from his grasp.
With a clear of his throat he was back to normal standing tall as he turned to your grandma, still he stared at you from the corners of his eyes.
"Now what are both of you fine ladies up to today?"
Looking at your grandma you wondered the same thing, what were you going to do now?
"I should be heading back to the house, we've got cookies in the oven." Her gaze then trailed to you smiling warmly, "I'm sure you'd love to stay and keep Simon company."
Your (e,c) eyes widened in fear, but your body froze in place as you watched your grandma walk off. The feeling on eyes boring into the back of your skull snapping you out of your trance. A sweet smile adored Simon's face as he walked along the path you were both on, quickly you bolted after him not wishing to get lost.
"Your grandmother told me you were fifteen, is that correct?"
You nodded, " sixteen next month."
"You must be excited," he looked for your reaction but was confused when he found you were frowning.
"No... I might not be spending it with both parents.." You stifled a cry.
"I'm sorry my dear," the both of you had stopped walking.
Simon's arm hand stretched out towards you, his hand hovering over your head hesitate to touch you. Slowly he rested his hand on your head giving a comforting pat, it was then you had let all hell loose crying like never before.
But there was this warmth that radiated onto you, a comforting sense as you closed your eyes. Pealing your eyes back open you had noticed that you were trapped in a hug, not a tight one but a soothing one.
Your tear stained cheeks glowed a soft pink in embarrassment, but you accepted the hug either way enjoying the warmth and comfort of it.
When the two of you had finally parted you were headed back to your grandma's. Your eyes had dried and the frown was replaced with a smile as you ran back into the house.
The rest of the day you had spent eating cookies and playing board games with both Simon and your grandma.
"Ok then, goodnight [Name]."
"Night grandma goodnight Simon," you smiled running up the stairs.
Hopping straight into bed you pulled the covers over your head fluffing your pillows and closing your eyes. The only light illuminating the room coming from the one window, the moon's beauty revealed to you perfectly.
Soft footsteps pasted your door into your grandma's, the sound of her door creaking shut.
Just as you were about to fall asleep the sound of a hooting owl had you sitting back up straight. In a wave of excitement you jumped off the bed rushing over to the window searching for the woodland creature.
Instead of spotting the feather covered animal you found yourself staring down at a familiar figure.
Taller then most you knew with his shining blonde hair.
Now wide awake you stormed out of your room, down the stair in pursuit of your new friend.
As you scurried out the warmth of the house you fell deeper into the forest, only a few feet behind Simon. However he didn't seem to notice you tagging along as he trudged through the thick bushes and trees.
His pace seemed to quicken however and you were lagging behind, struggling against overgrown plants.
"Simon?!" You called out for him hearing nothing in return.
Where did he go?
You wondered scanning your surroundings, still not finding him in sight.
Growing scarred you searched franticly for him, taking ragged breaths as you realized you were lost.
"SIMON?!" You called louder.
You bursted into a sprint, not bothering to look where you were stepping.
You yelped in fright and pain as you fell through the ground, stumbling down a rocky cliff. Hitting every rock and rout that sprouted out of the ground, scratching your knee badly in the process.
Slowly you pulled yourself up, your eyes wide and teary.
The only thing that lade in front of you now was a mansion, it was old and rickety but it still seemed to contain some life.
