I can't believe I was like that last night. Stupid blood moon. I got up, before Link did, he was still sleeping. I dressed in the armour, strapping everything tight. I fished the Edge of Duality off the floor, from where it'd been knocked from my grasp. It had only been a few inches from my grasp, the blade tip, I realised.
Silently scowling at the sleeping man, I grabbed my pack and headed out to the stables.
~
"Good morning!" The stablehand said, as I walked past. "Lovely day so far!"
"I guess you could say that," I said, not stopping for a chat. "Sorry, got shit to do today,"
"Aw that's fine, we all have stuff to do," she chuckled and kept forking straw to the big horned goats. They bleated here and there, rummaging through the hay.
I reclaimed Ivory, and tied her out the front of the stables, giving her an apple I'd found earlier. She snorted and snapped up the apple. I gave her a pat.
"Just going to be in there, having breakfast," I said, stroking the mane out of her eyes. "And waiting for the fuckwit," I rolled my eyes, and she tossed her head, probably in agreement, probably coincidental too.
I walked into the building and took a seat.
"What are you after for breakfast today?" The same young woman from the goats came in and asked.
"Um, toast?"
"Sure! Anything you want on it?"
"Some butter, bacon and eggs?"
"Sure! I'll be five or so minutes with your food," she grinned and walked off to get it started.
I hummed to myself, enjoying the peace and quiet, with no absolute retard to break the silence. The serving girl returned and I hungrily tucked in.
"Thanks," I said, already eaten one whole slice of toast. When the food was all gone, I stood up and went back to Ivory, readying myself and her for the upcoming trip. As I was checking her saddle straps, I heard a voice.
"Good morning,"
I turned slightly to see Link, standing there, shirt hastily pulled on, bed hair extraordinaire, and still half asleep.
"Are we leaving already?" He asked, yawning.
"You have ten minutes to get dressed properly, eat and get back here with your horse," I said, flatly. "Understood?"
"I can't do that in ten minutes..." he yawned.
"Well you're just going to have to," I crossed my arms. Ivory snorted, and put her head on my shoulder beside mine.
"Here," I held an apple.
"Oh thanks!" Link went to grab it.
"Oi!" I levelled him with a hard stare, "This isn't for you. It's hers," I handed it to Ivory, who snorted, her muzzle jiggling as she did so, almost mockingly at Link. She crunched the apple blissfully, apple seeds and juice flicking everywhere.
"You've got five minutes left!" I snapped.
"You could at least help me..." he moped, shuffling inside to get food.
"Me? Help you? After how you treated me last night? Nuh-uh," I snorted. He looked at me with a tired and shitty stare. I swung up into the saddle after untying her. I sat there, waiting for Link. He'd finally eaten, and walked out again.
"Hurry up!" I snapped, "We're supposed to be in Hebra, actually, half an hour ago,"
He sighed, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose and shuffled back to the cabin we stayed in. It was already 10am, we were supposed to be in Hebra around 9:30, but Sleeping Princess had other plans. My mood darkened with every five minutes that went by with still no sign of this complete asshole.
"C'mon Ivory," I narrowed my eyes, and wheeled her towards the road to Hebra, "we've got shit to do and places to be,"
I started off with a trot, just slowly because there were people walking around and I didn't want to hurt anyone that wasn't Link.
"Wait!" I heard a shrill neigh, and the clattering of hooves on cobble.
Link had Epona cantering towards us, people scattered by her sudden appearance and neigh.
"Took your bloody time!" I snarled. "Now shut up, and get moving,"
We cantered on in silence. I stole a few glances towards Link, he was always looking into the countryside or straight ahead, so he never caught me.
"Do you want something?" I heard him address me flatly.
"No, I was checking if you were still there," I replied shrewdly, looking forwards.
"I see," Link said. All we could hear was the clattering of hooves.
We reached a region where the trees became different and forlorn, snow becoming more apparent, and the breath coming out as clouds around us.
The sun was set, about an hour ago now.
"We should stop," Link said, irritably, as he flexed his hands for the tenth time in fifteen minutes. Small ice crystals had started to form on his hair.
"Fair enough," I conceded. The cold was starting to get to me.
There was a fallen log, and some stones, I knelt to push them into a ring, and looked about for some wood.
"Got wood?" I asked, scooping the snow out of the ring of stones.
"Here," he handed me a bundle of wood, and I placed it into the stones. I fished out a piece of flint and struck it with the Edge of Duality. It immediately flared up, casting orange light in a fair radius. It felt nice, but it did barely anything to dispel the cold. I was starting to tremble, my shoulders shaking uncomfortably. Link looked cold, but otherwise wasn't complaining. Huh, strange. Usually he'd be the first to complain.
"Cold?" I bristled, hands shoved in my armpits, I sat on one end of the log, my knees drawn up to my chest.
"You certainly look like it," he commented, looking me over.
"I asked if you were cold," I narrowed my eyes.
"Not as cold as you," he snidely remarked. "I am willing to help you out with that," he looked at me.
I was that cold, my shoulders and back were beginning to ache from the shivering.
"I'd rather freeze than do that with the likes of you,"
He rolled his eyes and sighed, exhaling a large cloud of steam.
"Idiot woman," he snapped. "Always quick to assume that I want to take advantage of you," he narrowed his eyes and stood up. He moved closer to me and held out his arms, in a hug me gesture. I hesitated, unsure, and he made my choice for me. He wrapped his arms around me, cocooning me in his body heat.
"You're really cold," he wrinkled his nose up but nevertheless kept hugging me.
"And you're still an absolute dick," I muttered.
"I can let go if you really want," he said, loosening his grasp. When I didn't move, he chuckled and hugged me again, "That's what I thought,"
