It was only a little after nine o'clock, when I was digging into the fridge. I had just taken a shower and decide to make breakfast for Brahms and I. "Brahms!" I call out for him as I set the items on the counter. "What type of eggs do you want?" I question hoping he'd hear from where ever he was.
"Scrambled." I hear from behind me. "Scrambled it is." I said before turning on the stove. "With cheese?" I ask turning around to Brahms, where he was seated at the dining table. He nods and I continue to cook.
I was just finishing up making two plates filled with scrambled cheese eggs, bacon, and biscuits. I was getting two
cups, when I heard the doorbell ring. I glance at Brahms in confusion. I place his plate in front of him. "Go ahead eat, while I get that." I tell him, hoping he wouldn't be too alerted of it.Looking through the peep hole, I relax a bit when I see it was Scott. Scott who texted me for plans, which I never replied back to. I open the door as I give a nervous smile. "Hey." I said as he gave one back.
"I stopped by because well there was a few papers we missed to be signed." He explains. "Oh okay."
"Just these two right here." He says handing me the clipboard and a pen. I signed them before giving it back. "Uhh thanks. Listen, umm - I tried calling..and i texted." He starts off which I completely felt bad.
"I know I know. I was busy with some things...complicated things." I found out my dead childhood best friend was actually alive and lives in the walls of my house. It'd must sound just as unbelievable as it does in my head.
"Oh I understand. Well I should get going." He says turning around to leave.
"Wait-" I said without absolute reason. "Let me make it up to you...how about drinks?" I genuinely felt bad for not responding back. He seemed nice plus he was the only other person (beside Brahms) I had contact with in weeks. He smiled before nodding. "Yea, I'd like that. Tonight? Let's say 8?" He responded.
"I'll see you then." I smiled back as I watch him get into his truck. I close the door as I walk back to the kitchen. I look towards the dining table, Brahms plate was empty but no Brahms in sight.
I grab my plate and sat down to eat. It's not long when Brahms enters. "Hey, you finished your food." I said as he continues to look at me. "Did you want more? There's plenty left over." I ask him as I watch him take a seat. "No." He tells me. As time passes by, Brahms speaks more and more, which makes me proud. I'm glad he wasn't completely mute. "Who?" He says, making me look at him with slight confusion. "Who, what?"
"Who...was that at the door?" I was slightly shocked at his question. That was the most I've heard him speak. I couldn't help be rethink what just happened. Did I really offer to go out? Of my house? What do I tell Brahms? He barely let leave the house for food just a couple of days ago... how is he gonna react to it? I couldn't help but mentally curse at myself.
"Oh it was just one of the movers who came with papers that I forgot to sign." I explain to him. It was still early so I still have a couple of hours till eight and figure out what I'm going to tell Brahms
I felt the urge to go out to the garden. Though it wasn't much one, I thought it'd be nice to take a walk. "I have an idea." I tell Brahms as I place my plate into the sink. "Would you like to walk with me out in garden for a bit?" I ask him. He continued to look at me as he wasn't pleased with the idea.
"I just thought be nice to get some fresh air for the both-" I had quickly rambled slightly afraid to be rejected if the idea. Though I was cut off by a simple word. "okay." He said.
"Okay?" I questioned in confusion. It took me a minute realizing he said okay to go outside. "Okay." I said in relief.
"let's go." I said as I make way to the back door of the house. I open the door and immediately feel the wind breeze by. I couldn't help but take in a deep breath as my eyes closed. I was brought out of daze when i felt a grip on my arm. I look behind me to Brahms. "It's okay." I said as I lightly grab his wrist before pulling him out of the manor.
We took small steps through the pathway. It was the beginning of fall so it wasn't much of a garden. Brown leaves covered the ground, no blossomed flowers, just tree branches giving it a gloomy setting. We both walked in a slow paced, just observing our surroundings. We walked for another five minutes before I took the quiet moment to talk to Brahms. "Brahms were going to have to talk about it sooner or later." I tell him. He didn't take a glance at me as we walked.
"The whole deal with your parents? Do you know what happened to them?" I continued but no reaction from him. "What about the fire? What happen then huh? Talk to me Brahms!" I reached to his wrist but he beat me to grabbing mine instead. He gave me a long stare as i pulled on my wrist. He twisted my wrist where it showed the top of my hand.
His head tilted as he looked at my scar. The scar i got because of him. He took his thumb and traced it over the 'B' that was carved into my hand. Over the years as i grew, the scar did as well.
I yanked my hand back. "I'm going need answers soon." I said before walking away into the house.
I couldn't help but feeling frustrated. I want to give Brahms time, i gave him time. I wanted to wait for him to be comfortable around as i wanted to be with him. Is going to be an endless loop?
When will it ever be time?-
an: i know it's been a good minute! no promises but i do have ideas for the next few chapters! don't lose hope on this book!
