I never really liked fairytale endings as a child. I never found them realistic enough, I liked the stories before Disney changed them because realistically a prince wouldn't fall for a live in house maid with unusually small feet and I find it quite hard to believe that there wasn't a single other lady with the same shoe size as Cinderella in the entire kingdom. In Snow White my favourite character was the evil Stepmother because she actually dealt with her problems herself. Granted that poisoning someone because they are prettier than you is not the right way to go about those problems but at least she tried rather than depending on a prince to deal with them for her.Once upon a time... in a faraway land that is Brighton, Kate is trying to contact Aaron.
"Hey, this is Kate Isla doesn't wish to speak to you anymore so don't call back when you get this message, thanks"
"Hey, Kate it's me Aaron I got your message but I don't understand why, she's the one that ran out on me and she's not answering any of my messages or calls what's going on?"
"Yeah after you took a call from your 'No.1 Girl'! Whilst on a date with Isla!"
"What?!"
"Don't play dumb you know what I'm talking about!"
"No, Kate that was my sister that was on the phone Isla miss understood!"
"Oooh crap!"
"What?!" There was silence on the other end of the line. "Kate where is she?!"
"On her way to Jenna's wedding"
"That's great maybe I can catch her before the ceremony"
"There's more..."
"What is it?!"
"She's with Myles..."
Aaron hangs up the phone and immediately starts to call Isla whilst jogging to his car but of course there was no answer. Kate tried to do the same thing, but again no answer. At the wedding the bride and bridesmaids just arrived and are getting ready to go in when all of a sudden Isla noticed her phone buzzing on the table and was about to pick it up when Jenna took it off her and said "No distractions, after all your phone is the reason I didn't get married the first time"
"You're right I'll just turn it off"
Meanwhile Aaron ran to his car to go to the wedding when he spotted the long trail of cars blocking the road.
"Bloody traffic! I'll never get there in time". The church bells started to ring and he spotted the church tower in the distance so he locked his car and decided to make a run for it.
Literally sprinting down streets getting closer and closer to the church until he burst through the doors screaming "I OBJECT!"
Everyone gasped and turned around to look at him. Realizing what a scene he just made he froze, "I- uh I", he looked up at the altar and didn't recognize a single face.
"Shit, wrong wedding!" "I'm so sorry guys carry on", feeling rather embarrassed he ran back out the doors and continued to sprint, leaping over fallen bins and stray cats "to the right church this time" he thought to himself. He approached the doors and burst through again this time saying nothing... but it was too late there wasn't a single person in there. He had missed her again.
"Are you looking for the Smith wedding?" The vicar said coming out from behind the altar.
"Yes, yes I am"
"They're having their reception at the Mayfield Inn on the corner of Partridge High Street"
"Thank you so much!"At the Inn people had finished eating and were starting to emerge onto the dance floor. Aaron stood in the doorway leaning against the doorframe. He spotted Isla on the dance floor with Myles, she looked so beautiful and happy with him. He thought to himself, did he really want to do this? Is it really that important that she knows that it was his sister on the phone not another girl, because if she is happy what does it matter? He smiled at how happy she looked and walked out the door. As he began to walk down the street he realized how happy she makes him and she at least needed to know that, he turned around and ran back into the building.
"Aaron?"
"Isla", he said smiling.
"What are you doing here?"
"I need to tell you something, I know you think I'm a jerk right now and showing up at your cousins wedding is probably not the best move..."
"Your really not giving me a good reason to keep standing here right now"
"Right I'll get to the point, the thing is I look at you and all I see is a bright future you're like no other girl I've met and I know that sounds like a cliché but it's true I've never understood it as much as I do now. You admit your flaws even when you don't see them 100%, you say no one is perfect but you know what, perfection is just a perspective, It's just a vision of what you want to become and in my eyes you are everything I wish I could be, in my eyes you are perfect."
"Aaron I..." Isla sighed and looked to the floor.
"It was my sister on the phone that night not another girl, I've changed I promise", he says putting his hand on her cheek.
"Would you like to come in? There's cake", Jenna says from the door way smiling. Aaron looks at Isla to check if it was okay with her.
"Yes come in"
"Okay, but before I do I have to ask are you and Myles...?"
"No he's just here as a friend"
"So it would be totally okay if I were to ask you to dance?"
"Well... I don't see why not", she said smiling.
So they danced all evening until their feet could not hold them up anymore. Isla looked around and realized that Myles had left without saying goodbye; she had guessed that he probably didn't like the fact that Aaron was here and It dawned on her that she was going to have to choose between both guys because at some point they're going to get fed up of her going back and forth, but who? She cares about them both so much.
Her heart began to beat faster and she began to sweat, the clock struck midnight and the church bells started to ring. 'Dong, Dong, Dong' she began to feel like the walls were closing In on her.
"I'm sorry I- I- have to go", and just like that Cinderella fled from the ball leaving behind one glass slipper in the process. Accept it wasn't quite glass it was more plastic and fake leather. However she continued to run even though she only had one shoe.
"What's up with her? Is her car about to turn into a pumpkin or something?" Joey said.
"I'll go see what's up", Jenna said.
"No it's okay you should stay and say goodbye to your guests I'll go", Aaron said picking up Isla's shoe.
He walked outside into the dark, the streetlights creating a path on both side of the street but there was no sign of Isla. Now Aaron hasn't known Isla very long but in the short time he has known her, he knows exactly where to find her when she's upset...Aaron walked along the beach looking for Isla, the constant lapping of the waves was a calming sound and the luminosity of the moonlight reflected off the ocean and made the whole scenery glow.
He walked over to Isla who was sitting on a rock under the pier.
"And once again pretty face ran leaving me confused yet again, you know what I'm starting to think it has something to do with me", Aaron said sitting on the rock next to Isla.
"Yup, you just have that affect on people", she said jokingly.
"Are you going to tell me what it is?"
"It's not you... well it is kinda..."
"Okay now you have to tell me"
"I can't keep stringing people along anymore!"
"What?"
"I need to make a decision!" She said jumping up.
"About what?!"
Isla looked up into his eyes and said, "I like you"
Aaron smiled and said, "I like you too"
"No you don't get it I really like you"
"No I do get it I really like you too"
"No! Aaron, I think I'm in love with you!"
Aaron said nothing and kissed her.
The kind of kiss that makes everything else around you stop, the millions of emotions making noise in your head silences and narrows down to one feeling... love. The kind of kiss that gives a sense of belonging that makes everything else seem so simple just for a single moment.
"I was kinda hoping you'd say that because I think I'm in love with you too", he says smiling. In the corner of her eye Isla saw a figure of a guy walking along the beach she looked up and realized it was Myles. He looked angry for a split second but then he just looked to the floor like he wasn't really surprised and just carried on walking a bit faster pretending he didn't see them, Isla was about to run after him but she thought that is was probably best if she didn't because she had made her decision. She looked up at Aaron and smiled back.
Back at the Inn Isla and Aaron were saying goodbye to Jenna and Tyler as they left for their trip to France.
"Bye Jenna, hope you have a great trip!"
"Bye Isla and thank you so much for everything you've done I really appreciate it"
"It was my pleasure and hey don't have too much fun", she said winking and giving a little giggle.
Jenna stuck out her tongue at Isla and she got into the car and drove off.
"I like her, she reminds me a lot of my sister", Aaron said putting his arm around Isla.
"Really, I'd love to meet her some time"
"She's actually in town for a few days at the minute. That's why she called me the other day"
"Ooooh, that makes more sense, well tell her to drop by the café tomorrow morning when we go meet the others, I'm sure they'd like to meet her too."
"Okay", Aaron said smiling and kissing Isla on the forehead,
And so prince charming got his Cinderella and they rode off into the sunset... well more like sunrise at this point but anyways they all lived happily ever after!
Or so they thought...The next morning at the café the group of friends were in their usual booth by the window that looks out onto the pier when Aaron's sister arrives. Aaron see's her entering the room and stands up to introduce everyone.
Then it all started to make sense his sister currently in town, more like conveniently in town just after we discover the bitch is in town also. Aaron has also mentioned that his sister is living in Toronto and who else do we know that's living in Toronto....?
"Ah Lillian this is my girlfriend Isla."
The rest of the group drop their cutlery and stared at each other in shock. Lillian?! Aaron's sister is Lillian?! The same bitch that had been pulling the friendship group apart for as long as they've known her!
Isla stood there expressionless not knowing what to say but to her amazement this is what came next.
"Hi, I'm Lillian it's nice to meet you", she says smiling that devilish smile and putting out her hand gesturing a handshake almost like they've never met!
Isla's eyes still wide not managing to blink she gradually puts out her hand too and says feeling slightly unsure of her words, "H-hi..."And they all lived happily NEVER after...
