        This is just a short chapter introducing a character.... Or is it? No spoilers at who it is, but I'll tell you this: It's an Oc. Yup, not even telling you if its a guy or a girl. :}

        A day or two later, I was aimlessly wandering the grounds, thirty minutes before the start of first period. Really, I shouldn't have been up that early, considering how little sleep I'd gotten, but I'd awoken refreshed.... one hour after patrol? Yuki and Zero, the latter especially, both thought I was insane, but, hey, so is life. Alistair was following me as I patrolled the class building, hopping from branch to branch, flying from tree to tree. All seemed to be peaceful, but, as I rounded the corner, I saw that it was anything but. Near the back of the building, three short, stocky boys had surrounded something, jeering and laughing. It turned out that something was a someone.

        "Leaf me thalone," I immediately recognised the voice as the one from the other day. In the tree, with a lisp.

        "Oh, what'd'ya say? Sorry, couldn't understand you, say it again?" The two boys next to him snickered. All three were loutish, with pug noses and pig eyes and dark hair. I couldn't take their harassing of him for a moment more.

        "He said to leave him alone," The three boys turned, and I saw that they all looked alike. More importantly, they were neither Day nor Night school, wearing gray slacks and black hoodies. 'Good,' I thought, 'Then the Chairman won't mind if I... teach them a lesson, as a Guardian it is my duty.'

        "What do we have here?" Their leader sneered, the only difference about him a jagged scar on his eye. "Uglie's nerdy girlfriend?" I rolled my eyes, hand on one hip.

        "Actually, a School Guardian. What do we have here?" I retorted, mimicking the leader, "The Three Stooges?" The three glared, and the shortest one shoved me.

        "Stay out 'o this," His voice was deep and husky.

        "I'll give you one warning," I adjusted my glasses and then my armband. "Get off the campus now, and I'll let you leave without any broken bones." Stooges one and two just laughed hysterically as their leader came over to me, fists raised. He circled me, hopping from side to side, fakinga few jabs, like he'd watched too much fake 'pro' wrestling. The Stooge's Leader took a swing at me, his meaty fist resembling a wrecking ball about to smash through the wall that was my face. Stepping elegantly to the side, I caught his fist and twisted it mercilessly behind his back. Then I kicked the back of his knees, so he fell on his stomach, and stomped on his ankle. It broke with a sickening crack and a pig-like squeal from the boy.

        "Get out of here," I whirled back to the other Stooges. "And take him with you," I jerked my thumb at the whimpering boy. I half lunged at the boys and they grabbed their leader's arms and stumbled off. Replacing my angered look with a gentle smile, I held my hand out to the shaking, shadowy figure, who hesitated. "It's alright, I'm not like them." The boy grasped my hand, and I pulled him up. Finally, I got a look at the one everyone called, 'Medusa's Son.'

        He had military croped, dark hair with honey brown, platinum blond, bright crimson, and burnt orange streaks inconsistantly threaded in between. His eyes were a brownish-reddish-orange, like river clay, and his smile was filled with crooked, turned out teeth. The boy's oval face was very tan, with a big, lumpy nose with warts dotted on it like polkadots. A beanpole of a boy, he stood at almost six feet tall, and had long, lanky arms and legs and think, delicate fingers that looked like they were made for turning the pages of a book.

        "Thigh name's Nordorick Reginold Chamomile," Nordorick gave me a big, toothy grin, his face stretching in a goblin-like manner.

        "Zephyra Defiance Rowen," He shook my hand with Herculean stregnth, "Do you mind if I call you Nord?" Nord's smile widened, like a kid who'd just seen Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.

        "Thure," He beamed and then waved, beginning to walk away. "Thee you in clath." It was then that I noticed Nord was wearing a Day Class uniform.

        When class began, I, to my own shame, finally noticed the treatment of Nord. The other kids would put out their feet to trip him; throw paper balls and airplanes at him; and drive him to the shadows of the back of the classroom. Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore, especially when a sniggering boy placed a big tack on Nord's chair.

        "Hey, Nord," I pat the empty seat next to me, "Why don't you come sit by me?" He beamed as though I'd made his day, again, and made a beeline for the chair. Nord sat down next to me with a soft,

        "Thankth, Zephyra," Then he was just content to smile his strange, goofy smile and focus on the teacher.

        Little by little, I began to learn about Nord: His favorite color was sky blue, just before the sun fully rose; he was fifteen; he had trouble with math, and accepted my offer to tutor him; he liked poetry, particularly Shakespeare; Nord loved dogs, cats, birds, and horses; finally, he was sweet, funny, goofy, and, albeit, a little slow, but very sweet and baby lambish. Nord was the first person I really came to know as my friend at Cross Academy. But, even my new friendship would be no consolation in the dark tide that was to come.

        Far away, in England, a tall man with dark, medium legnth hair smiled ominously as his crimson eyes scanned a letter.

        "Found you," The man said, his voice like dark silk. He crumpled the letter and tossed it into the sea.
