"An interesting story," Kaname Kuran stepped out of the shadows, a while later, at the edge of the Moon Dorms."You really could take a page from your own book." I snorted, giving a long whistle, causing Alistair to fly to my shoulder.
"What do you want, Kuran?" Arms folded, I stared boldly into the pureblood's eyes. Everything around me blurred slightly. "And quit it, you can't erase my memory." The blurring stopped, and Kaname studied me curiously.
"The Chairman wants to see you." He walked a little closer and I stepped back a little.
"Well, don't I feel special that you, yourself, came to tell little old me that. I know the way, so you can go now." I walked around him, but he grabbed my shoulder. Big mistake. Even with my small stature, I flipped a very, very surprised Kaname over my back. Vampires, eyes glowing all different shades of red, surrounded me, and my hair fell into my face a bit. "Don't you ever touch me you flippin-" I felt a hand clamp over my mouth and I flipped them as well. It was Ichijou. "Excuse my behavior," I half bowed. "I just- It's not excusable, I am sorry." I said through gritted teeth, walking away with clenched fists. "I'll... just go see what the Chairman wants." If looks could kill, I would've been dead as many times as there were Night Class students. Shivering, I pushed through the crowd and ran towards Chairman Cross's office.
"Ah, Zephyra, come in, come in and sit down!" Chairman Cross said as I entered, gesturing exageratedly to a chair in front of him.
"Thank you, but I'll stand," I crossed my arms and stared the Chairman down, a dark aura surrounding me. "What do you need, Chairman? I have homework to do."
"No need to be so blunt! How's school? Are you making any new friends?"
"Chairman. I have little patience. I just made an enemy of all the vampires in this school." He sighed, unsurprised that I had said this.
"Actually, that's what I wanted to talk to you about." The Chairman looked at me seriously. "In just two days, you have attacked-"
"Defended myself from," I said, narrowing my eyes.
"Defended yourself from," He ammended, "Three vampires. And made yourself an enemy of all the girls in the school, and now the vampires as well."
"Get on with it," I said, slitting my eyes, "If you're going to expel me, just do it." Alistair bobbed his head, like he was agreeing with me.
"I'm not going to expel you, Zephyra," The Chairman said, to my surprise. What he said next surprised me even further. "I want you to become a Guardian. Might as well keep the peace, right?" I exhaled through my nostrils, staring at the ceiling like it held the answers to the universe.
"Fine," I said, stroking Alistair's feathers. Turning to the Chairman, I smiled a legitimate smile for the first time in a while. "When do I start?" My original cheerfulness creeped back up on me.
"Tonight," The Chairman half smiled at my resumed happiness. "Oh, and Zephyra?" He said as I began to leave, one foot out the door. "How'd you make every single vampire in the Night Class your enemy in just a day?"
"Um..." I hesitated a moment, scratching the back of my head sheepishly. "I might have... flipped Kaname Kuran when he touched my shoulder..." I said the last part hurriedly, shutting the door before Chairman Cross had a chance to say anything. "Well, that could've gone better, eh, Alistair?" I could've sworn my raven winked at me.
I returned to my bedroom, finished my homework as quickly as I could, and, as dusk began to fall, there was a knock on my door.
"Come in," Yuki and Zero opened the door as I was rummaging through my luggage, looking for something. "Ah," I said, like Sherlock homes making a great discovery, "Here we are." Yuki peeped curiously over my shoulder. It was a long, rectangular black box with golden, scrolling letters printed along its middle.
