Hugh's P.O.V.~
It had been a very long day at school with a lot more homework to do, assigned projects- oh, we have a group project to do and we sadly didn't get to pick our partners. I would've gladly picked Millard, we've been best friends since the beginning. But because teachers don't trust us students to do anything, they decided to pick our partners.
Teachers are the worst, right?
So anyway, I was partnered up with this girl named Y/N. She's really sweet, like honey. I mean, I've known her since the first day of school, we've been partnered up a few times before.
And now I'm here, listening to Millard rambling on about how we should've been able to pick our own partners.
"Dude, calm the bird down," I said.
"But it's not fair!" Millard raised his voice a little and stood up. "Horace and his girlfriend got partnered up together, but not to two of us!"
"That's because we never get anything done," I pulled him back down to the bench we were sitting on.
"But I always keep you on track!"
"No, you always try to get me to do something else and then we get off track and never get anything done."
"That's not true!"
I sighed. "You think what you want, Mills," I smiled a little.
"Hey! I told you not to call me that!"
"Yeah, whatever," I sighed once more and looked in a random direction. My eyes landed on a group of girls, laughing at a joke one of them made. I could recognize them; Roselyn, Alice, and . . . Y/N?!
"You checking out the ladies, Bee Boy?" Millard whispered to me. I could tell he was smirking.
"Shut up," I said.
"Hey, isn't that the girl you were partnered up with?" He pointed to Y/N.
"Uh," I lost my train of thought for a moment. "Y-Yeah, I think so. She's pretty sweet and one of the only girls I get along with other than Fiona and Horace's girlfriend . . ."
Millard gasped. "You were looking at her, weren't you?"
"N-N-NO!!" I yelled at him, blushing eternally. "I DON'T L-LIKE HER!!"
"You don't like who?" Someone from behind me said. I turned around there stood the beautiful- I mean, there stood Y/N.
"O-Oh, hey Y/N!" I nervously said. "I didn't see you there."
"Heh, it's fine," She chuckled. "I just saw you yelling and thought I would come over and see if everyone was alright."
"Everything is-" I began to say, but Millard cut me off.
"Nothing is ok!" He said, standing up. "He's love sick!"
"Really?" Y/N said.
"Yeah!" Millard said. "He has a crush on this girl named-"
"MILLARD!!" I shouted, covering his mouth. "I don't have a crush on anyone, he just THINKS I do because I was staring at someone before."
"Oh," Y/N said. She looked sad after I said that. Did I say something wrong? "Well, I'll see you at school . . . I guess." She walked back over to her friends.
I felt something warm and slimy on my hand. "MILLARD!!" I shouted at him, pulling my hand back.
"What? How else am I supposed to get your hand off my mouth." He said.
I rolled my eyes and wiped my hand on his jacket.
"Also, good going! You should've let me tell her you like her!"
"Why don't you tell your crush?" I smirked.
"Why don't you tell her?"
"Great idea!" I stood up and started to run away.
"HEY! I WAS JOKING!" Millard yelled at me. I could hear his footsteps behind me and knowing Millard, I slowed down so he could catch me. Once he did, he tackled me to the ground.
"Ok, I won't tell her," I said, putting my hands up in defeat. "Now, do you have any good pick-up lines?"
"Why do you need pick-up lines?" Millard asked, letting my wrists go.
"Because," I said. "I want to say them to Y/N."
Millard smirked . . . even though I couldn't see it . . .
"Well, I'm the right person to ask!" He said confidently.
So Millard gave me a couple pick-up lines for me to say and I picked the best one.
I just hope this works . . .
~This time skip to the next day at school has been brought to you by Lance's awesome pick-up lines that never work because they're really horrible but no one bothers to tell him that~
I walked to the back of the school, which was where Y/N and I decided to meet so we could talk about the project. The perfect time for the pick-up line.
"Hey Hugh!" Y/N said, waving me over.
"Hey Y/N!" I said back, walking a little fast over.
"You seem excited about something," She said.
"I'm just excited because I get to work with the moon," I said. Here we go.
"What?" Y/N said, sounding confused. She tilted her head.
"Because even at night, you still seem to shine,"
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows. Bird, she didn't get it.
"What are you saying? Are you feeling ok Hugh?"
I sighed. I was disappointed that she didn't get it.
'Dang it, Millard,' I thought.
"Look, Y/N . . ." I blushed a little. "I guess you could say . . . that was supposed to be a pick-up line because . . . I really like you, a lot."
I waited for her to say, "I'm sorry, Hugh, but I don't feel the same way," but I only felt something on my cheek.
"I really like you a lot, too," Y/N said. "My heart shattered into a million pieces when you said you didn't have a crush on anyone yesterday, but now I know that you do like me as well. I'm glad that you do"
I smiled at her. "I'm glad, too."
So we discussed the project and ate our lunch.
And we kissed a little more.
