After the police station was willing to let Percy leave, Tony took him back to the tower. No way was the billionaire letting Percy stay on his own like this. Even if Percy wanted to go home he couldn't for his house was sealed off for a murder investigation. It was a crime scene. However, they'd allowed Percy back in to grab some clothes and show them the bottle. Then Tony had hustled Percy into his car an drove them to Stark Towers.
When they entered, they were immediately bombarded with questions. everybody hunting for an explanation as to why Tony disappeared in a hurry this morning and why Percy was suddenly here - not that Percy being there was a problem.
"Okay everybody, sit down and shut up!" Tony roared, raising his hands in the air. It was almost comical how quickly everybody obeyed. "You, first question." Tony turned and pointed to the first person he saw.
The man paused what he was doing.
"Sir, I'm still just the janitor..."
Tony blinked, allowing that to sink in. He coughed awkwardly and then waved a hand of dismissal. "Uh, right. As you were."
The man continued, quickly moving into another room.
"Okay then. Cap, first question."
"Where did you go this morning?" he asked, reclining in his chair.
"Percy's house. There was an emergency and I had to go." Tony explained. He held a hand up and clucked at the soldier when he opened his mouth to ask another question. "Clint's turn."
"Did Loki do something? Is that why Percy's here?" It had been three years and the archer still couldn't bring himself to accept Loki.
"That's two questions but yes, Loki did do something. He-"
It was at this moment Tony couldn't keep the Avengers calm. Not when it involved the former god and one of their youngest family members. Percy flinched at the sudden uprise of noise.
"What'd the bastard do this time? I'll-"
"Loki's dead."
Sudden silence ensued. It was as if somebody had sucked all the volume out of the room. Percy's voice hadn't been loud, but everybody heard it. It was dead quiet until...
"Oh."
Somebody stepped forwards to hug him, Percy didn't see who but he stepped away from them, pointedly staring at the ground.
"Percy-"
"Save it. Your pity party won't bring him back." Percy muttered. It was a warning that he wasn't really in the mood for anything the Avengers had to offer.
Tony noticed the look on Percy's face and spoke up. "You've still got the same room, kid."
Percy nodded his understanding and detached himself from the group. They didn't say anything, just watched sadly as he left.
Once he was out of earshot they turned to Tony. He sat down with a heavy sigh. "Sit down. I'll explain everything."
And so he did.
Tony explained how he'd gotten a phone call from Percy that morning asking him to come over. He spoke of how he'd seen Loki lying dead in bed and the way he was. Tony talked about how they'd been interrogated and discovered how a sleeping drug was involved. He glossed over the hours he'd spent waiting.
Everybody was silent for a moment, thinking over what they'd been told when Steve spoke up.
"We need to tell Thor."
There was a collective intake of breath.
Of course. How could they forget Thor? He was Loki's brother for heaven's sake and the god of thunder would definitely want to know about his brother's passing.
