I tied the laces to the ice skates that were on my feet. I carefully stood up from the chair that I was sitting in and looked up seeing that Aleah was waiting for me by the entrance. I wobbled to the entrance to the skating rink and stood next to Aleah. I looked up at her to see her trying to hold in a laugh.
"What?" I asked, a smiled now plastered onto my face. She put her hand up to her mouth.
"You looked like a penguin" she let out a small giggle, which made the butterflies in my stomach go wild. I laughed and looked down. She grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the ice.
"Woah" I said, trying not to fall. I held tight onto her hand and clung to the wall trying to regain my balance.
"Cmon skate with me, Max" I looked into her beautiful golden brown eyes.
"Ok" I said, letting go of the wall still looking into her eyes. I turned forward, not seeing the kid skating toward me. I carefully and quickly moved out of the way as the kid skated past me. I looked back at Aleah and we skated in silence for a moment before bursting into laughter. We skated for a few moments, not realizing that we were getting further away from each other. I looked over at her to see that we were about seven feet apart. I looked back up at her face. She hadn't seemed to have noticed the distance between us. Suddenly I gained a weird burst of confidence. I skated over to her and grabbed her hand. She looked at our hands, then up at me and smiled.
"Hi" she said. I smiled and looked into her eyes.
"Hey" I replied, looking from her eyes to her lips, then back to her eyes. She gently leaned her head onto my shoulder, my sudden confidence went away and was replaced with butterflies in my stomach and a red tint on my cheeks. She gripped my hand tighter and placed her other hand on my bicep. I smiled and looked forward.
After thirty to forty-five minutes I felt something fall onto my nose. I looked up as it started to snow. I looked down at Aleah as she looked up.
"It's snowing" she glanced around, ecstatic. She skated ahead of me, still holding my hand. I smiled at her inner child. She glanced back, then let go of my hand. She spun around in a circle, taking in the flurries of frozen rain. I adored her and her childish side in this very moment. There may have been a lot of people, but that didn't matter. It felt like it was just us two. And I couldn't ask for anything else.
