Chapter 3 "Millennium Park"

Later on in the day, Connor checks his phone to see Shaylynn left him a text message asking him to come to her house after his shift.
He looks at the address and recognizes the street name, it being in a well to do neighborhood.
"You move on fast!" Connor hears come from behind him, he rolls his eyes then turns around, "I have a right to be happy!" he tells Ava, "What am I supposed to do, forgive you for sleeping with my Father while you were sleeping with me. Then drop to my knees and thank you for having him donate the money?! Not going to happen!"
Connor walks around her, "I did it for us!" she tells him.
He stops and turns to look at her, "You slept with my Father for us? Wow, Ava! You're a piece of work! The only good thing about me not going off to Mayo is meeting Shaylynn!"
Ava looks at him pissed off, "We're done!" he tells her.
Connor turns and walks off.

The shift is finally over.
Connor hurries and changes out of his scrubs.
He can't get out of Med quick enough.

Shaylynn finishes straightening up when she receives a text from Connor saying he's on his way. She smiles and puts her phone back in her pocket.
A few minutes later, her phone rings.
Thinking it's Connor she smiles to herself as she takes her phone out.
When she looks at the screen, her smile fades, "Didn't you just leave!" she says.
"I wasn't quite truthful with you," David tells her, "I brought the package with me."
"You what?" Shaylynn says surprised.
"Are you going to be coming to the winter activities in Millennium Park here in a little while?" he asks her, "I plan on being there."
"I wasn't planning on it but I guess I am now!" she tells him, "But you need to know, I've met someone and he'll more than likely be with me."
Silence.
"David?" Shaylynn says.
"Yeah, I'm here," David says, "But I thought.."
"You thought we would get back together," Shaylynn says to him.
"Well, yeah," David says.
"I really don't see that happening," she says.
"So you and he are that serious?" he asks.
"Well, no," she tells him.
"So I still have a chance!" David says "I have to be going. I'm not sure where I'll be so you'll have to look around."
"Alright," Shaylynn says.
"Bye, Shaylynn," David says.
"Bye, David," she says hanging up.
Shaylynn can't believe what David just told her.

Driving down the road, Connor finds Shaylynn's house and pulls into the driveway.
He gets out and walks up to the door, ringing the doorbell.
Shaylynn opens the door, Connor sees what she's wearing, "You look nice," he tells her as he walks in.

"Thank you," she says walking toward the living room, "Connor, we need to talk," she says.
"I don't like the sound of that," he says concerned.
Shaylynn sits down on the sectional, Connor sits beside her, "Where do you see this relationship going?" she asks him.
"I can see us spending our lives together after we get to know each other," Connor tells her.
Shaylynn smiles, "Really?" she asks him.
"Yes, you don't think the same?" he asks her.
"Oh no, I do! I would love to spend my life with you but there's something you need to know before we go any further," Shaylynn says looking at him worried.
"What is it?" Connor asks her.
"My ex, David's in town," she tells him.
"Okay, what does that have to do with us?" he asks her.
"He has our daughter with him," Shaylynn says.
Connor just looks at her, "Oh," he says.
"He and she are going to be at the winter activities in Millennium Park. I'd really like for you to meet her. That's if you want too," she tells him.
Connor looks at her and smiles, "I'd love to," he tells her.
Shaylynn smiles then kisses him.
Going to a place that has families, Shaylynn thinks it would be best to take her Escalade.

Walking around Millennium Park, hand and hand with Connor, Shaylynn looks for David.
"Do you see them?" Connor asks.
"Not yet," Shaylynn says speaking too soon, "I see them now. See the man holding the little girl who's wearing a red shirt with a white fuzzy vest, that's them."
Connor looks across the way and sees David holding a little girl, "Are you ready?" she asks him. 

"Sure," Connor tells her.
"Are you sure? If this is too much I can go over by myself," Shaylynn tells him.
"No, I want to meet your daughter," Connor says.
Shaylynn smiles at him, they both start walking over.

David looks to see Shaylynn walking toward him holding a guys hand. He puts the girl down as they walk up.
"David, I'd like to introduce you to Dr. Connor Rhodes," Shaylynn tells him, "Connor, this is David."
Both men extend their hands to each other.
"Connor, this is my daughter McKenna," Shaylynn tells him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, McKenna," Connor tells McKenna.
"Hi," McKenna says back to him, "Mommy, can I hug you?" she asks Shaylynn.
"Yes," Shaylynn tells her.
McKenna quickly puts her arms around Shaylynn as Connor looks at Shaylynn oddly.
"Growing up around cops, especially undercover, she's been taught to ask first not knowing if someone has a gun on them," Shaylynn tells him.
David looks at Shaylynn, then to Connor, "So Connor, what type of doctor are you?"
"I'm a Cardiothoracic Surgeon," Connor tells him.
"A surgeon," David says looking at Shaylynn who gives him a dirty look.
McKenna grabs Shaylynn's hand, "Come on Mommy, let's go make a gingerbread house!"
She starts pulling Shaylynn away, "Behave," she whispers to David as she passes by him.
David moves over closer to Connor as they both watch Shaylynn and McKenna walk away.
"What does that type of surgeon make?" David asks.
Connor gets a shitty grin on his face knowing what David's up too, "I make a little over five hundred thousand a year," Connor tells him.
"Wow!" David says, " I bet it's reassuring knowing that Shaylynn isn't with you for your money since she has her own."
Connor doesn't know what to say to that, "With her working SWAT, I'm surprised she has so much," he says when McKenna runs over to him and grabs his hand.
"Connor, come on! Help me build the gingerbread house!" she says pulling on him.
Shaylynn smiles at Connor as he and McKenna walk pass her.
She walks up to David and stands beside him, "You need to tell that man what you do!" he tells her.
"What are you talking about?!" she asks him.
"He thinks you got all your money from being in SWAT!" David tells her, "You need to tell him you're a paid assassin!"
Shaylynn glares at him, "I work in SWAT! And for your information, I prefer Monster Hunter!"
"You can call it whatever you want, you still kill people and get paid for it!" he tells her.
"I told you somethings need to be taken care of off the books! These aren't people, their monsters! Drug dealers, drug cartel members, murders, rapists, pedophiles, human traffickers, etc! You got what you wanted! You got McKenna, so drop it!" she tells him pissed off.
She and David stand there in silence watching McKenna and Connor.
