The Next Day: Selina

Selina wasn't sure what made her feel better.  Looking directly at the cell they had put Jeremiah into to make sure that he was still there or being as far away as possible from it and the psychopath it contained.

After standing there for a couple minutes, she decided that it was the latter.  Not because she was scared, Lucius had prepared that cell especially for him and thought of every escape route possible, and Selina trusted him.  She was just so pissed off that it hurt to see him without ripping his head off.  The asshole tried to kill me.  He almost paralyzed me.  Selina decided that she was going to the roof.  The room was so stuffy and she could barely breathe.

The roof had always been a good escape.  For anyone.  Whether that be down, up or away depended on the person.  Hers used to be away, but lately, it didn't feel necessary.  Everything she needed was right there.  Everything or everyone?

She really needed to talk to Bruce.  But she wasn't even sure what she would say.  It wouldn't be fair to try to get him to understand all of the emotions that she could barely comprehend herself.

Here I am, worrying about Bruce, when the man who tried to kill me is right below my feet.  I've officially become one of those girls.  I just need to come to terms with the fact that he doesn't feel the same and move-

Out of nowhere, Selina felt a sharp, stinging pain in the base of her back. No, her spine.  Pain didn't quite describe the feeling correctly.  It was white, hot agony, and the buzzing aspect made her arms and legs buckle and shake uncontrollably.  When Selina hit the ground, she thought she heard herself scream, but it also could've been the ringing in her ears.

If the night she was shot was unbearable, this was far worse.  It won't stop.

Right before she closed her eyes, she thought she saw something moving towards her.  Not something, but someone.  Before she could depict who, she felt another wave of electricity, and all she saw was stars.  All she heard was ringing and all it seemed she would ever feel was pain.  It completely shut down her ability to think about anything beyond the agony.  Kill me, kill me, kill me, please! Make it stop!  Everything seemed to begin and end with nothing but the torture.

Even once the feeling went away and numbness arrived, Selina rocked herself in order to keep calm.  It wasn't until the ringing in her ears subsided and she heard herself, still chanting, kill me, please, make it stop.

What truly snapped her out of her daze was Tabitha grabbing her hand.  Selina looked up saw her friend, filled with concern and fear.  Those feelings weren't common companions for her friend, so Selina squeezed her hand harder, trying to convince Tabs of the lie that she was alright.

Selina turned her head to see that Bruce, Alfred and Lucius were also surrounding her.

"How long was I-," Selina began, but her voice was worn down from the screaming, and the sound that came out of her mouth wasn't pleasant, so she didn't bother to finish.

"Ten minutes," Alfred's voice was rough, too.

Instead of trying to talk again, she decided to just look.  Alfred looked as concerned as Tabitha, Does he think it's going to happen again?  Is it going to happen again?   No.  Don't do this to yourself.
