A Krismas Eve Kiss

Chapter 7

"Alright folks! We have one more audition today from our new kid, Kris. Are you ready?", Mrs. Grant says to him.

"I guess as ready as I'll ever be." He walks to the front of the room, he looks at me and winks. Oh my gosh, he's so funny. I think I'm finally comfortable with him.

"I'll be singing Cold December Night"
And from the first note on, I was in a total dream state. I kept closing my eyes because he sounded like Micheal Bublé! It's insane, that a quarterback would be holding all that talent. He kept looking at me and smiling. Then at the end he sang one of the last lines...looking right at me..."so kiss me on this cold December night..." My face goes completely pink, I look away as soon as possible. Candy nudged me and raised her eyebrows up and down playfully. I give her a small shove and she starts giggling. I give her a side eye and mouth "oh be quiet!" That just makes her giggle harder, it's pretty funny because she's trying to stay quiet and everything is funnier when you can't laugh out loud. I giggle and give her an eye roll.
Everyone starts clapping. He's finished. I try not to look up at him, before I know it, he's back in his seat after his round of applause.

"That's the last audition, I'll have the solos and duets posted tomorrow, outside my office. I figured you all wouldn't want to wait till next week when we have class again. Ok! For the rest of class let's...you know what?! Class dismissed. I'll let you out much earlier than usual. I have some hard decisions to make.", Mrs. Grant says.

That's odd. I grab my bag and head out the door, phone in hand. Candy and Emma catch up with me.

"Heyyy! Spill the tea! What's up with you and the new guy?! Someone said they saw you get out of his truck.", Emma says.

"That someone..was me!", Candy says to Emma. "Aannd! Tell us how that happened?", she says to me.

"Nothing, my car wouldn't start and he was near by. He offered me a ride."

"Wow! I need to try that!", Emma says.

"Try what?", I ask.

"My car broke down...good one!"

"UMM, it actually wouldn't start!"

Candy rolls her eyes at Emma. "And you accepted his offer?"

"Yeah, what happened to you being nervous around him and stuff?", Emma interrupts.

"Guys!! Nothing changed. I needed a ride and I was running later then normal.", I say getting tired of their questions.

"Ivy! we just want to know what-

"Excuse me ladies, can I talk to Ivy?", Kris interrupts. Candy and Emma looked shocked and walk away.

"Hey...", I say.

"Hey", he says smiling.

"What's up?", I ask waiting to hear why he had to interrupt me and the girls.

"Huh? Oh! Nothing. They just looked like they were bothering you."

"They're my friends.", I say sternly.

"You sure? You looked upset."

"Yes!"

"My bad...so do you have a ride?", he asks.

"You know, I don't even know you that well, why do you need to know?", I say a little too sternly this time.

"Because I was your ride here and I'm not going to leave you stranded.", he says looking shocked.

"Sorry, they were bothering me. I didn't mean to snap at you."

"I get it.", he says understandingly. "So you need a ride?"

"Yeah... I understand if you don't want to, I wasn't very nice to you."

"No, of course I will."

We walk to his truck and we get in.

"Thanks for the ride."

"You're welcome."

My phone says the time is only 10:15. Usually class lasts till 11:30.

"Wanna go for...brunch?"

"A date?!", I say confused.

"What!? No, I don't know anyone here, I wanna get to know some people."

"Ohhh", I said with a little too much relief in my voice.

"You don't have to if you don't want to."

"What? No! I'll go!", I said that a little too quickly. Oh boy...
