The Enlightenment Era

To my friends, who inspired these books. The Knights of Thaysa

The trumpets sounded loudly echoing in the sounds of the palace walls. The halls of the palace filled with sounds of armor tapping on the marble floor. A young lady opened the grand doors that lead to the Throne Room. The clinking of the armor she wore made a sound along with her shoes. She knelt down along with three other knights who are behind her.

"Father, I have returned with momentous news..."

The King turned around to see the young lady kneeling on the ground. "Rise, let us know the news." The young lady rises. "Father, I have won the tournament!" A smirk forms on the King's face. "Good job pup! I am proud of you indeed." The King steps down from the throne to hug his daughter who runs up to him.

King Javen Magnar Thaysa the Fifth, the 16th Ruler of the kingdom of Thaysa. His daughter Semlina Jessimae Rhune-Thaysa, his adopted daughter is the only heir to the throne with much disagreement from the royal council. The princess exceeded all expectations despite not being of royal blood. Sem hugged him back lovingly. "Father that trip was dreadfully long, I honestly don't know how you used to make that trip back and forth." "I had to back then when Thaysa was starting to reach out after the war. Now they know who we are but it's best for us to lend a hand to our neighboring kingdoms once in a while." She smiled and pulled away.

"One moment Father, I have to speak with your Head Knight...is Sir Tanner around?" She looked around to see if she could find the man in the white armor. "Tanner should be on the training grounds around this time...is there something you needed from him?" "Yes, he has something I need to give to you...if he has it around this time!" "Well, go find him! I love receiving presents from you, little one." King Javen pinched Sem's cheek. She grinned widely and bowed to her father before leaving the throne room with her knights behind her. Knight Bridget came a little closer to Sem. "Princess...are you sure Tanner has what you've requested. I believe last time you asked that old hoot to retrieve something for you it took him a long time. " "Now, Bridget I believe he made a little bet with me...so if I were him, I'd make sure I'd have that item or else I'd be a 100 rune richer." Sem and Bridget chuckled. "You and the others can go on ahead. I have to get to my chambers to change and I'll be out by the training grounds soon." "Of course, Sem, we will see you there." "Yes, and see me win that bet." She smiled and waved goodbye to Bridget and the others. "Ah, what a tiring week it has been...it's nice to finally be home." Sem made her way to her room, passing all the paintings of King Javen the Fifth and her that were spread around the palace and pictures of all the previous rulers and their families. When she made it to her room the maids opened the door immediately and quietly followed her in. "Ma'am" the two maids bowed and slowly stripped away her armor. "It's honestly great to be back Margot and Danica...the castle in Morganton was quite the bore...all the men thought I was a prince...because I had won that tournament two years in a row. You should've seen Prince Dillard's face when his squire told him I was the previous winner." They both chuckled alongside Sem. "That's what happens when they leave for a while, of course, a better winner is going to come along and pick up the title and Princess you are the perfect person for that." "Oh Margot, you praise me too high. I honestly am still very shabby, unless I can beat that darned Tanner at a match then I am still a novice till then." "Oh, Princess don't be silly, you're getting better every day...news spread every time you beat one of the princes over there...of course only because you were the only Princess in that tournament." Danica laughed. Sem got behind the curtain to change into her dress. "I must freshen up, is there any water? I have to get this stink off of me." Danica helped Sem lace the back of her dress and Margot prepared the water for her. "Thank you kindly." Sem washed up and dabbed the rose water that was waiting on the side for her. "Makeup?" She shook her head. "Not after that long trip...no thank you, Danica. I will be heading out now. I will be at the training grounds should anyone be looking for me."
