an annoucement

Because you and Tom had been best friends since you were little, your families were very close. They were your second family, and you knew that they always really liked having you around. The same was for Tom; your family had always adored him. However, you weren't sure how any of them would react to finding out that you were pregnant. Pregnant with Tom's baby.

Together, you'd decided that you would just invite both of your families over to your place, and get it over with all at once. You figured it would be easier, rather than having to deal with it twice. And maybe they'd keep each other in check, rather than flipping out too much. That was the hope, anyway.

This dinner had you stressed out, but Tom was stressing even more than you were. You had tried to talk him down (with no luck) as he rambled on and on about all of the things that the both of you had to get done before everyone came over. Tom's behavior was striking you as kind of strange; he'd been more or less calm throughout all of it so far.

Finally, you caught Tom as you passed him in the hallway, turning his body towards yours. You lifted your hands to his shoulders and looked up to his eyes, "I know you're nervous, but you need to calm down. And you can always tell me what's on your mind. So, take a deep breath and then spill it, babes."

Tom nodded, taking a deep breath with his eyes closed before shifting his gaze down to you. He bit his lip, his voice coming out softly, "I'm so nervous, Y/N. I know we've talked about this, and we're okay with it, but what if they're not? I just really don't want my parents to be disappointed. And I don't want your parents to hate me. This is all my fault."

You frowned, running one of your hands down his arm slowly, shaking your head. You hated seeing him so upset. "Nobody is going to be disappointed, nobody is going to hate you. Even if they do, they have to be disappointed in me and they have to hate me, too." Your hands came down to his, and you gave his hand a gentle squeeze, a small smile on your lips, "It takes two to tango, Tommy. This isn't all on you, we both had a part in this." You have him a playful wink at the last few words you spoke, and squeezed his bicep. "Are you okay? Cause we have to finish getting ready." After Tom nodded, finally seeming a little bit calmer, you went back to getting ready for the evening.

As you were finishing getting ready upstairs in your room, the doorbell rang. Your heart jumped in your chest as you heard Tom open the door, greeting his family.

Taking in the deepest breath you could, you looked at yourself in the mirror. You fixed a piece of loose hair, and then smoothed out your shirt, grazing your hands over your still-flat stomach. Your finger brushed across your tummy a few times before you joined the others downstairs.

Tom's parents immediately gave you a hug, as Nikki told you how "absolutely stunning" you looked. You almost let out a laugh - you didn't feel stunning - but thanked her anyways.

Seconds later, there was another knock, and you opened the door to find your parents. You were smothered in hugs and kisses as your parents came into your place. And suddenly, hugs were being passed all around. You and Tom exchanged a glance and a smile; this was going well so far.

Dinner had gone smoothly, and now, everyone was sitting out in the living room. You and Tom had decided that you'd pass out sparkling water (instead of champagne) and make the announcement then. The two of you were standing in the kitchen next to each other, filling glasses, and you looked up at him, "How are you doing?"

Tom's response came after a shrug and a few moments of silence, "Nervous, I suppose. I'm also excited, though. How are you? You're the pregnant one."

You let out a laugh and shrugged as well, "I have butterflies. I kind of feel like I might throw up. Due to nervousness or to pregnancy? I'm not sure."
