Chapter 29

<Kirito's PoV>

I spent hours chasing the girl, I had lost her and it wasn't helping that it was incredibly dark and I was in a forest! But my mind races to that figure that also chased after the girl... I needed to find her and quick!it was as if my prayers were answered. In the distance I could hear faint sobs, so I used my hearing skills and raised the volume and scanned the direction from where it was coming from. I was directed to the edge of the forest. I realised I was on a cliff above the forest we were meant to be in. I guess I lost track of where I was.

Enough of these thoughts, I ran into that direction and found the small girl sitting on the edge with her head buried in her hands. She was crying a lot and I felt pity for her... but angry at her parents for leaving her alone in a forest! How could someone be this ignorant to their own child. And now something was hunting her as well... I need to protect this child at all costs. "Hey..." I said in a low voice and I slowly walked to her. Her head perked up and then she noticed it was me.

"Go away! Stop I don't want to go with you!" She shouted. "Look, I'm not here to take you... I just wanna know why are you all alone... in a forest that's all. And the thing that is chasing you" I said and I see her wipe her tears and look at me. "How can I trust you? That's what the man said before he tried to take me away!" She said. I drew my blade and gave it to her. "If you think I am going to do anything bad you can stab me" I say and I see her stare at my blade.

"Ok... I trust you..." she says and hands me back the blade and I put it back in my sheath.

"My name is Kirito... what is yours?" I ask in a friendly tone.

"My name... Yui."

"Why are you out here alone? Where are your parents?" I ask.

"My parents... they died protecting me, from the man that is chasing me. And I've been hiding and running for 2 weeks" She says and my jaw almost drops. 2 weeks she has been alone and running from darkness. I felt even more pity on her and looked at her eyes. She looked sweet and innocent, how can someone harm someone like this! If I found the person chasing her I would make sure to give them hell!

"Look, I'll take you back under my care, and also my girlfriends care... you'll like her!" I say thinking of Asuna. Sure she will be shocked that I found a kid and I am taking her like this but she'll understand that I can't leave her out here like this. I could see the girl begin to tear up... "Then can I be part of your family?" She said and I was shocked... I mean it would be a big step but there was no way I trusted anyone else to take care of her. "Yeah... sure we'll be like a family" I say and she hugs me. I was shocked by this. I didn't know why, maybe because she was experiencing fatherly love that I had never ever experienced in my life.

My emotions were cut short when I heard a twig snap behind me. I instantly turned around and drew my blade in that direction. Yui clutched onto my leg in fear and I used my senses and found a figure lurking behind a tree. "Whoever you are step out from behind that tree. Show yourself!" I shout and then I heard laughter that I would recognise in my sleep. Death Gun? My question was answered when Death Gun himself stepped out from the shadows but he was unarmed. So I lowered my sword.

"It's odd, I'm not here for you Kazuto... I would like to shoot you and then tear you apart but your father wants you. But forget about that. I'm here to take the girl back to where she belongs!" He said and Yui held my leg even tighter. "No she will not go with you! You even killed her parents! How can you be so heartless" I shout.

"Ironic... you were once like this as well Kazuto. Anyway I want to keep this short and simple. So let me take her to the dark lord! She needs to be branded with the mark!" He said fiercely. Why her? She's just a small girl. "Why!? If you want her your going to have to kill me!" I say. "Oh I would but your father is showing mercy. And the girl has shown qualities that the lord wants! So it's essential I have her" He says but that was enough said.

I used my speed and pinned him against the tree trunk with my sword against his throat. "I will not let you take her or I'll cut your throat right here" I say with venom in my voice. "You wouldn't dare show the girl more horrific sights? Now would you Kirito?" He says and begins to laugh because he was right I couldn't do this in front of her. I then pulled away from him and put my sword back.

"Your lucky I don't have a weapon here Kazuto or I'd have put you in your grave by now" He said and disappeared into thin air. I turned back to Yui. I saw a gash in her leg. "Let's head back to my dorm. Asuna will fix you up" I say and pick the girl up bridal style. She smiled at me before she closes her eyes and falls asleep. I kept her close to my chest and began to run through the forest once more.

<Asuna's PoV>

I couldn't believe that Azurica said we'll have to wait until tomorrow to send a search party! A valet was missing and they were this calm!? I was utterly disgusted. They said he wouldn't have gotten to far! But still a persons life was at risk. Alice and Eugeo were trying to reassure me but it didn't work. I just sat outside the academy looking at the path that led to the forest. Everyone else had gone back to their dorms. I was the only one awake hoping to see Kirito arrive soon.

I sat on the bench on the porch and looked into the distance but I felt eyes begin to droop a little. I was tired but I wanted to stay awake in case Kirito returned. And on queue I saw a figure running down the path towards the academy. And soon I saw his face and it was Kirito and he had something in his arms. I got off the bench and ran to him and before I could tackle him into a hug I saw the little girl from before in his arms and he looked a little distressed.

"Kirito..." But he cut me off.

"I'll explain later but we need to fix her gash up, she has lost quite a lot of health!" He said and we both ran to our dorm. I frantically opened the door and he ran in first and laid the girl on our bed while I closed the door. He shut the blinds and locked the door and switched on the bedside lamp. He looked rather alarmed which surprised me. But I then took aid to her leg and wiped off the blood. I then used sacred arts to conceal her wound to stop any bacteria entering the blood. I then went to my drawer and pulled out a big plaster and placed it on her leg. I then pulled the blanket over her and stroked her hair.

She looked very innocent and cute... how can someone hurt her?

"Kirito what happened to her? And who is she?" I asked.

"She was the girl you thought was a ghost... she wasn't. She needed help and both her parents are dead! And she's been on the run for two weeks alone in the forest" He says and I couldn't believe my ears... a little girl of her age all alone in a forest. I stared at her and couldn't help but feel pity. I then put my hand on her head.

"Who was she running from?" I ask.

"Death Gun" Kirito says and clenches every muscle he has. I hold his hand and he eases himself but he still looked angry. "He wants her so bad... I can't believe she managed to survive two weeks. But I promised her that me and you would take care of her and be her family" He says and I begin to blush... be a family with Kirito. I was fan girling so much inside and couldn't contain my excitement. "Of course! I want to help her as well now! But don't we have to do so much paperwork for her to be our daughter" I say.

"I don't care... I want her to stay. I want to give her the parental love that I never had. And she needs it she is still so young. And with you I know it is possible" He says and I begin to tear up. He is so thoughtful to others I just couldn't help but cry. "Then lets go tomorrow to church and get this sorted" I say. We stay silent for a few minutes.

"You know I've always wanted a daughter" He says out of the blue... I couldn't be more happier because I had the same wish as him. I've always wanted a daughter too. "Same! I've always wanted a daughter and see her grow into a strong independent woman!" I say with a smile.

"By the way her name is Yui..." he adds and I stare at the girl and whisper her name.

"Let's make sure we take care of her!" I say.

"Of course... after all she will be our daughter"
