"how was school" my mom asked shortly, obviously still upset about this morning.
"fine" I said and went right upstairs.
I did all my homework before dinner was even being made. I took a shower and decided to change into my pajamas early just so I would be comfortable. As I was setting up my computer and tv, Rosie walked in. As I was working hard to concentrate she babbled on and on about her exciting day at school, I nodded occasionally and she didn't notice my dis-interest.
"how was your day?" she asked as she finally finished.
"it was alright, high school isn't as exciting and fun as middle school so I don't have any awesome stories to share with you." I sighed, she laughed and stared at me.
"did you meet any friends?" she asked curiously. I nodded and she seemed happy for me.
"one day you should bring over your friend, and I'll bring mine over and we can all hangout!" she said getting really excited. I laughed and rolled my eyes.
"what makes you think two 17 year olds want to hangout with you guys?" I joked, she gave me a glare and stuck her tongue out.
"what's her name" she asked after she was done with being mad at me for those whole 2 seconds.
"it's a boy, and his name is Peter." I said and her mouth dropped and her eyes lit up.
"is he gunna be your boy friend!" she nearly screamed in excitement.
"no Rose. You know I don't even want a boy friend now, if everything going on here, and with dad. Too hectic." I sighed. I'm stressed enough to even think about how I would be able to function if I added another thing to my busy schedule.
"Aubrey... it's a boy friend, not a puppy, you sound like you have to take care of it and have responsability and like it's a big chore. It's not." she corrected. I glared at her.
"I'd have to make time for him though, time to talk to him, be around him and be all lovey-dovey and cute and stuff. I don't have time for anything else. I need to chores around here, take care of you, take care of mom, unpack everything still, keep up a job, and now school work. Tell me where a boy friend fits?" I said, she sighed angerly and crossed her arms.
"you're in high school. Normal high school girls have boy friends." she said stubbornly.
"Rose, I don't even know him." I sighed.
"HA! so you would consider it if you knew him!" she said, getting excited again.
"never once said that Rose." I sighed
"yeah, but you implied it!" she said. I rolled my eyes.
"whatever you say." I said giving up, she smiled proudly then we were both called down for dinner.
"so tell me how school went girls." my mom smiled, I could tell it was a fake one, but I didn't say anything as Rosie got all excited again and I listened to her whole day for a second time.
A couple weeks later.
managing everything became easier, as my mom learned how to cope with her depression and start trying to watch Rosie a little more. Everything in my house was completely packed, and now I just had to deal with work and school, which was fine for me.
I was sitting on my front porch relaxing and reading when I heard a car door open and close on the street. I looked up and saw my dad. I glared at him as he approched up to the house slowly, not noticing me yet.
"what are you doing here." I demanded, he jumped and looked at me, still shook up.
"your mother felt it was neccessary for me to talk to you and Rosie." he said, I glared again.
"I have nothing to say, and you're just going to make Rosie more upset. She's going to be so happy to see you, then you're gunna leave after what? an hour? if she's lucky. Then she's never going to see you again and you know who will have to listen to her cry about for weeks and weeks every night? me." I nearly screamed. He bit the inside of his cheek and looked away. I do the same thing, and that just means he feels guilty as all hell.
"I was planning on taking you girls out for dinner. Aubrey please come along, it wont be the same." he sighed. I stared him down, guilt all over his face. I sighed then nodded shortly.
I ran inside and up to my room to change. When I came down with Rosie, my parents were having a civil conversation. Rosie jumped up into his arms and they shared a tight, loving hug.
"ready to go?" dad asked, we both nodded and he drove us to a resturant close by to the house.
"good evening" Peter smiled, standing up infront behind the host stand. "just three?" he asked, my father nodded and he got us the menus. He led us down a specific part of the resturant and then turned his head towards my dad.
"booth or table sir?" he asked polietly.
"uh, a booth would be great." my dad smiled back. We were seated and I was handed my silverware and menu last, I rolled my eyes at him and he winked then walked off.
"ooo! flirting with the host!" Rosie squealed. I laughed and shrugged.
"I know him from school, it wasn't flirting Rose, it was joking around." I sighed.
"is that the Peter guy you told me about?" she asked in shock. I nodded.
"he's cute!" she nearly screamed. I laughed and looked down at the menu.
"girls, can you be serious for a couple of minutes, I have things I need to discuss with you." he sighed. Rose and I tensed, but paid attention.
"your mother and I have finialized the divorce, and on our terms, we want you guys to be happy. So we have decided to give you the opportunity to either stay here in New York, or you can come back home with me tonight, it's up to you and the option will always be open to you. We want you to be comfortable and you feel comfortable here, then you can stay. What ever you guys decided will not at all upset your mother or I, we're happy with whatever you two decide to do." he said. Rosie and I looked at each other knowing if one wanted to go, the other would tag along.
"you're really happy here Kiddo." I said smiling, she nodded, then looked down.
"but you're not." she said simply. I shrugged.
"if anything I can just go off to college in California, or like dad said whenever I feel like it. I can visit during school breaks and stuff." I said, she frowned.
"I feel bad for making you stay." she sighed, I rolled my eyes.
"Rose you aren't making me do anything."
"I ruin everything!" she screeched and ran out of the booth covering her face with her hands. I sighed, me and father both scooted out of the booth in a hurry to chase after her.
"Peter, where did she go?" I asked running up to him.
"who? the small one? parking lot." he said worriedly.
"Dad, just stay at the table." I sighed before running out looking for her before she got hit by a car, or kidnapped.
