Everyone says the same thing at the turn of a new year.
"New Year, new me."
"This year will be better. Different."
"Turning over a new leaf."
I've heard them all and I've even said the same things. But in reality, it isn't really true. Yes it's a new year. Yes you're older and possibly wiser, although unlikely. But how long does it last? The resolutions. The promises. Everything about it isn't real. Posting about your new resolve to change or be better isn't going to cut it.
The silent resolve to change things only comes from those who have been deeply hurt or have made too many mistakes to count. That kind of resolution doesn't come when the ball drops and everyone cheers the new year.
It comes in the quiet hours of the night, when you don't think you can take anymore. It comes in the disappointed faces of the ones you love, because you let them down yet again. So don't resolve to be better or change things.
Simply resolve to have courage. And be kind. The change will come with it. And you will be a better person for it.
